Hi, =20 having been a satisfied user of Hermes 1 for quite some time, I have to admit that a refarctored and open source (Apache license) version would = be nice. Lately it struck me that that might be less work than one might think. = E.g. using the Spring Framework and a lot of the ASF stuff, this might = actually be accomplished in, say, three month or less. =20 Things I missed in Hermes 1: =20 - CPA support - RegRep support, especially with regard to CPA handling; I am not = saying that one must absolutely use a RegRep, but maybe the way CPAs are stored could be abstracted a bit - the Hermes client/server HTTP interface, well, I wonder whether = something could be abstracted there as well - cluster support; I think that enterprises would appreciate = fault-tolerance and load-balancing features =20 Stuff I've thought about: Apache James could be used to handle SMTP, thus getting rid of polling POP/IMAP altogether =20 What is going on with version 3 of ebMS? Is that actually going to be implemented and used by anyone? Somehow, I have yet to come across a scenario in which version 2 is insufficient. To put it a different way, I'd rather spend time hooking ebMS up to the other parts of the framework (CPP/A, RR, BP) than fixing something which = I don't think is broken to begin with. =20 best regards Torsten =20 _____ =20 Fra: ebx...@li... I have been discussing this off list = privately with stakeholders. =20 We should have something to report in the next week or so. =20 I agree that there are two different code bases doing two different jobs = - and there is a need for both going forward. =20 I appreciate your support for Hermes 1 - as you note there are still = more refinements possible - and hopefully we will have good news shortly. =20 Thanks, DW "The way to be is to do" - Confucius (551-472 B.C.) -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [ebxmlms-general] Status and future of Hermes1 From: Gannholm Torbj=F6rn <tor...@tu...> Date: Mon, November 27, 2006 4:33 am To: "'ebx...@li...'" <ebx...@li...> Hi all, =20 We are wondering what the status and future of Hermes1 is. =20 Is there anyone else but us interested in maintaining and updating = Hermes 1? =20 Does anyone have any plans to accomodate the new version 3 of ebxml-MS specification in Hermes 1? =20 Hermes 2 has so far not been an option for us, everything added to = hermes 2 is less than useless and nothing in it is better than hermes 1. Also, = the restriction to postgresql only is a big fly in the ointment, too. We = have hopes for a nice rewrite and refactoring of hermes 1 instead. =20 Best Regards, =20 Torbj=F6rn Gannholm =20 Tullverket IT Box 12854, 112 98 Stockholm Bes=F6ksadress: Aurorum 3, Lule=E5 0920 25 96 77 070 672 53 23 tor...@tu... http://www.tullverket.se =20 _____ =20 -------------------------------------------------------------------------= Take Surveys.
