Sorry for the late response, had a busy day yesterday.

Regarding your questions, there are only about 6 records in mshconfig, but
there are 16000 in messagestore

If database speed was a problem, I would expect that all activities would be
affected (that is, it if went slow this time, it'd still be slow now and
would have gotten worse).

How many records are there in the database? In particular, how many records
in mshconfig table? in messagestore table? I am still not sure about the
reason, just wondering whether the number of records in database is one of
the factors determining speed or not..
