Hi CY,
Thanks for your answer. I tried the ApplicationContext("*","*","*","*") =
and it didn't work out. Here's what I did. Maybe you can tell me what I =
did wrong or at least give me a hint.
I made a copy of the LoopBack class and and renamed it to Client. So the =
CPAId and others values are still the same as in the original LoopBack =
class. I just ask the class to print the timestamp before sending the =
message.
Then I slightly changed the LoopBack class by changing the =
ApplicationContext to ("*","*","*","*") and I deleted the part that =
sends a message. (From "AttachmentDataSource ads ..." till =
"mshReq.send(message); "). I also changed the 10000 value in the sleep =
method to 50000 and ask the MessageListener to print the timestamp.
I started the Loopback in one window and run the Client class in another =
window.
I don't get anything in the LoopBack window. But when I turn the =
ApplicationContext to its original value, I do get an answer in the =
LoopBack window saying that a message was received and the timestamp =
printed in that window is the same as the one in the client window.
That's why I asked is the ("*","*","*","*") was to receive all the =
messages.
Do you see anything wrong in the way I proceed? Did I miss anything?
Thanks again for your time.
Regards,
HK |

Hi HK,

If not, is it possible for an application to receive all the messages? What I would like to do is to be able to process an incoming message according to the Action field but with a CPA Id, a conversation Id and a service that may change from one communication to another (for test purposes). In other words, the application behind the MSH does not have the same CPA Id ...
You are right. ("*", "*", "*", "*") is a wildcard and is used to
receive all messages.

Hi, Sorry for taking so long to answer... > 1. What is the difference of your proposed ebXML post office and a > ebXML MSH with a pair of JMS queues, one for accepting message to be > sent out, and one for the messages to be delivered back to the client? 1. I believe there is a need for a postoffice in J2EE. Whether one implementation of this postoffice uses ebXML is another question :-) However, using JMS queues to link Hermes and the Hermes client would be cool (as a first step maybe) : IMHO, one weak point of Hermes is the HTTP transport between the client and the MSH, because when there is a need for guaranteed delivery, the application has to persist its own messages before attempting to send them to Hermes, just in case the delivery is not possible immediately (Hermes down for instance)... Using JMS, you could simply use JMS reliable messaging to make sure the message WILL be sent by Hermes. > 2. In an ebXML post office, how can different applications to get > their own messages back? I mean, how the post office partition the > messages for different clients? 2. I believe there would be a need for configurability of the postoffice (read XML deployment descriptors) like all other J2EE technologies. Its goal is to redirect incoming message to different JMS queues depending on... it depends on the protocol, so must be abstracted :-) ... in the case of ebXML, depending on CPAid, or fromParty, or toParty, or Service, or Service/Action or a combination... > 3. How about encryption? If the post office should examine the > messages before to send it out, does that imply we have to sacrifice > end to end security? 3. I believe the important point is that encryption must appear somewhere within the system boundaries where security is OK. Is security OK between Postoffice and JMS clients ? Well, its tough to hack inside an application server (the client could now stand in the same process as Hermes) ! However, I think I would rather use JMS headers (instead of ebXML headers) to tell the Postoffice what to do with messages, because I would not want to link my client application to ebXML but to the PostOffice... so as to use another protocol if needed. Regarding end to end security... think of it: is your database encrypted too ? And... whether encryption is required or not depends on the CPA, which IMHO would be better handled by the postOffice itself... Let's talk about it. There would be a good match between the CPA (in terms of agreement) and the tasks of the PostOffice... I mean if I had to implement this postOffice, I would handle CPAs (and what is related to communication, encryption, sync-replies or not, reliable messaging or not, etc...) at the postOffice (well, its ebXML implementation), not at the "JMS client" level. The JMS client would then need to know nothing about ebXML (or other protocols !) : just tell the postOffice where you want the message to go (in abstract terms) and what message it is (in abstract terms), and the postOffice knows how/where to send the message... ebXML headers are filled-in at the very last minute, the application needs not care about ebXML headers anymore... I believe abstracting ebXML is important... I like ebXML, but I believe web services have (or will soon have) extensions to make them appropriate for reliable messaging, ordered delivery, etc... ebXML is not the only protocol we can think of in terms of B2B communication... IBM has Reliable Messaging specs available for comments... and business process orchestration... etc... And when your trading partners don't have an ebXML infrastructure ready, you need to rely on something else ! The J2EE community would better accept ebXML if the specs for integrating ebXML to J2EE are open to other technologies... Look at J2EE technologies : they always make abstraction of the actual implementation... You don't have Tibco support, but you have JMS. You don't have Tuxedo support, but JCA. You must have PostOffice to have ebXML support :-) IBM and BEA just announced their work on SDO : an API to work with data, from XML to RDBMSes, etc... The need for abstraction is everywhere. We first abstracted the implementations (JMS, JDBC, JCA), now we abstract the actual nature of things... I'm afraid we can't have ebXML support in J2EE if we don't have a good abstract spec... which JAXM is not. I think JAXM is a bad match for ebXML because it treats ebXML as SOAP w/Attachment+something, as a protocol and nothing more. ebXML is more than that, it's about B2B communication, 1-n relatioships, not a 1-1 relationship. Don't you think there is a lack in the J2EE specs : there is no spec yet for "get business messages out of the app server, to my business partners, and receive messages from them". It's not about a protocol, it's about a Business PostOffice. My 2 cents Chris Patrick Yee wrote: > Christophe, > > Thank you for your cool idea. That makes me excited too. How do you get the "Session.protocol: null" messages? What object are
you printing? BTW, I have written a very simple testing program to try
to print out the provider information. Would you please try to run
this in your environment? Thanks.

<pre wrap="">Patrick,
We have looked after these matters and we do not use our own
implementations of these files, just the j2ee files.
the mailserver however did not support SMTP authentication. we
changed the mailserver and the problem persisted. The hermes MSH did
not send any mail but our client on the same PC could send a mail
with the mailserver using SMTP authentication.
We then added some logging information in the mail.java of the cecid
package.
The following output was the result.

it seems to us that there is something going wrong with the session
object, for that is zero in value. And the session.protocol should
reflect the chosen provider (smtp) according to the j2ee API from

We are now trying a newer version of the MSH we found in the cvs on

you know if that solves the problem.

Hello,
I changed the from party ID but now I get another error
that leaves me wondering.
parameters:
from partyId: <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="mailto:de...@19....20">mailto:de...@19....20</a>
type: Mail
to partyId: <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="mailto:ma...@19....20">mailto:ma...@19....20</a>
type: MAIL
the errors given in the msh logfile are:
thread: sending message to
<a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:ma...@19....20">ma...@19....20</a> through 192.168.xxx.20
error: 10103 Cannot send mail message
exception: javax.mail.NoSuchProviderException
message: smtp
exception:
hk.hku.cecid.phoenix.message.transport.TransportException
message: 10103 Cannot send mail message
We also tried with company mail addresses and hotmail
mail addresses but they gave the same errors.
The log file of the mail server does not show the msh is
trying to send the mail it is only polling in te pool for
new messages.
do you have any idea as for what is going wrong?

I was printing the variables as displayed from the session object but other variables are used. :) already found that out but it is still not working. The problem that is there now is a 10103 Cannot send mail message. Already send mails to the mailing list about it under that subject. We were thinking about exporting that piece of code and trying our selves b/c other java mailing programs did work.. But you have been very kind by providing us with that possibility. I'll try and see if I can run the test totday. Let you know about the results.. Mark Patrick Yee wrote: > Mark, > > How do you get the "Session.protocol: null" messages? Hi HK,
Hermes could be put in a mode that authenticates client requests (i.e.
clients need so supply username and password in order to register/send etc)
. This mode will be activated once the tag
Property/MSH/Config/AuthenticationFile in the msh.properties.xml has been
specified. I guess your problem is that you have activated this mode (i.e.
leaves this tag uncommented), but your Hermes server cannot find that
authentication file (because it doesn't exist). If you don't want to use
client authentication(at this time), you can comment out the tag and restart
your tomcat sever.
Hope this helps.
Simon

Subject: [ebxmlms-general] Re:LoopBack problems
Hi,
I installed the 0931 release with Tomcat 4.1.12 and the JDK1.4.1 on win2k.
I did tried to ping http://localhost:8080/msh/ but the servlet was made
unavailable.
Indeed, I encountered the following problem when trying to start tomcat
reported in the msh.log file:
[10001] Initialization error - authentication file setup error (not
exist/not a file/zero size)
That generates an exception in the MessageServiceHandler servlet.
Here's an extract of the msh.properties.xml file:
<DigitalSignature>
<TrustedAnchor>
<KeyStore>
<Path>/hermes</Path>
<File>msh.keystore</File>
<Password>mshUser</Password>
</KeyStore>
</TrustedAnchor>
<AckSign>
<KeyStore>
<Path>/hermes</Path>
<File>msh.keystore</File>
<Algorithm>dsa-sha1</Algorithm>
<Alias>mshUser</Alias>
<Password>mshUser</Password>
</KeyStore>
</AckSign>
</DigitalSignature>
I did generate a file called msh.keystore using the java keytool and put it
in the hermes directory.
I also tried to comment that digitalSignature part. In that case I retrieved
the following error:
[10001] Initialization error - Missing
MSH/DigitalSignature/AckSign/KeyStore/Alias or
MSH/DigitalSignature/AckSign/KeyStore/Password property
I didn't find anything in the documentation about the authentication except
the 5.4 paragraph but I guess this is related to another issue.
Anyways, thanks for your help.
Best regards,
HK.

I did generate a file called msh.keystore using the java keytool and put =

I also tried to comment that digitalSignature part. In that case I =
retrieved the following error:

I didn't find anything in the documentation about the authentication =

Anyways, thanks for your help.

Dear HK, I think you can test the followings: 1) start the MSH and see you can access it through web browser. (e.g. access http://localhost:8080/msh/ on web browser). If the MSH is ready, it should print out the following message: Hermes is alive. However, Hermes does not respond to HTTP GET method. 2) If you can, try to look at the content of the msh.log to see whether there are exceptions/error on start up. (I believe it should be on /hermes directory on your drive which you installed the Tomcat), if you cannot figure out the problem from the log, you can send it to the mailing list to us to have a look on it. Hermes distributes its own mail.jar while your app server may also
contain the mail.jar somewhere. I wonder what implementation is actually
invoked when Transport.send() is called. This may be related to classpath
loading mechanism.

Hello, the problem is that I get a 10103 error when trying to send a mail to another msh server with the msh_client. The msh server that the client is connected to generates the error. the exception that occurs is: javax.mail.NoSuchProviderException. the gives detailed message is: smtp The exception is generated by the file in the package: hk.hku.cecid.phoenix.message.transport.TransportException At first the properties of the client were also empty in the log file of the client but we have added these to the client config file and it did not solve the problem. so the problem is situated in the mail.java in the MSH server. I have analyzed the problem by inserting some log file output into the mail.java int he hk.hku.etc. structure. It seems to me the problem is that the Transport.send (mimeMessage) invokes an incorrect Provider. All parameters entered into the properties and session seem to be correct. The used provider is the com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport and the provider requested should use (in my thoughts) the javax.mail.internet package. below is a copy of the log file: 2003-11-20 15:34:30,198 DEBUG [Thread-26]: => Mail.send 2003-11-20 15:34:30,206 INFO [Thread-26]: Sending message to msh1@192.168.1.10 through 192.168.1.10 2003-11-20 15:34:30,214 INFO [Thread-26]: mail.java => ebXMLmessage: hk.hku.cecid.phoenix.message.packaging.EbxmlMessage@f42d53 2003-11-20 15:34:30,222 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => PROPERTY_JAVA_MAIL_SMTP_HOST + auth: 192.168.1.10 2003-11-20 15:34:31,424 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => session.getProperty(PROPERTY_JAVA_MAIL_SMTP_HOST): 192.168.1.10 2003-11-20 15:34:31,430 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => session.getProvider(smtp): javax.mail.Provider[TRANSPORT,smtp,com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport,Sun Microsystems, Inc] 2003-11-20 15:34:31,432 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => session.getProvider(smtp).getClassName(): com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport 2003-11-20 15:34:31,433 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => session.getProvider(smtp).getType(): javax.mail.Provider$Type@cff5ed 2003-11-20 15:34:31,433 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => session.getProvider(smtp).getProtocol(): smtp 2003-11-20 15:34:31,434 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => session.getProvider(smtp).getVendor(): Sun Microsystems, Inc 2003-11-20 15:34:31,434 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => session.getProvider(smtp).getVersion(): null 2003-11-20 15:34:31,438 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => session.getProvider(smtp).toString(): javax.mail.Provider[TRANSPORT,smtp,com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport,Sun Microsystems, Inc] 2003-11-20 15:34:31,515 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => mimeMessage.getAllHeaderLines(): Message-ID: <31958224.1069338871515.JavaMail.root@demoserver> 2003-11-20 15:34:31,524 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => mimeMessage.getAllHeaderLines(): From: msh2@192.168.1.10 2003-11-20 15:34:31,532 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => mimeMessage.getAllHeaderLines(): To: msh1@192.168.1.10 2003-11-20 15:34:31,540 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => mimeMessage.getAllHeaderLines(): Subject: Item_No_128 2003-11-20 15:34:31,548 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => mimeMessage.getAllHeaderLines(): Mime-Version: 1.0 2003-11-20 15:34:31,556 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => mimeMessage.getAllHeaderLines(): Content-Type: text/xml; charset="utf-8" 2003-11-20 15:34:31,564 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => mimeMessage.getAllHeaderLines(): Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 2003-11-20 15:34:31,574 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => mimeMessage.getAllHeaderLines(): SOAPAction: "ebXML" 2003-11-20 15:34:31,583 DEBUG [Thread-26]: mail.java => mimeMessage.getFileName(): null 2003-11-20 15:34:31,588 INFO [Thread-26]: mail.java => before Transport.send() 2003-11-20 15:34:31,680 ERROR [Thread-26]: [10103] Cannot send mail message Exception: javax.mail.NoSuchProviderException Message: smtp 2003-11-20 15:34:31,691 ERROR [Thread-26]: [10002] Unknown error Exception: hk.hku.cecid.phoenix.message.transport.TransportException Message: [10103] Cannot send mail message and exception: javax.mail.NoSuchProviderException: smtp 2003-11-20 15:34:31,700 DEBUG [Thread-26]: => MessageProcessor.wakeUp 2003-11-20 15:34:31,705 DEBUG [Thread-26]: <= MessageProcessor.wakeUp 2003-11-20 15:34:31,714 DEBUG [Thread-25]: => MessageServer.logSentMessage 2003-11-20 15:34:31,724 DEBUG [Thread-25]: => DbConnectionPool.getConnection 2003-11-20 15:34:33,373 DEBUG [Thread-25]: <= DbConnectionPool.getConnection 2003-11-20 15:34:33,384 DEBUG [Thread-25]: <= MessageServer.logSentMessage 2003-11-20 15:34:33,393 DEBUG [Thread-25]: => Transaction.commit (txID: #5) 2003-11-20 15:34:33,403 DEBUG [Thread-26]: <= MailSender.run 2003-11-20 15:34:33,414 DEBUG [Thread-25]: => DbConnectionPool.freeConnection 2003-11-20 15:34:33,423 DEBUG [Thread-25]: <= DbConnectionPool.freeConnection 2003-11-20 15:34:33,431 DEBUG [Thread-25]: <= Transaction.commit for a bit of clarity on the inserted comment lines I have attached the Mail.java file. thank you for looking into this matter, Mark Zenhorst |

Patrick, We have looked after these matters and we do not use our own implementations of these files, just the j2ee files. the mailserver however did not support SMTP authentication. we changed the mailserver and the problem persisted. The hermes MSH did not send any mail but our client on the same PC could send a mail with the mailserver using SMTP authentication. We then added some logging information in the mail.java of the cecid package. The following output was the result. 2003-11-18 16:11:45,797 DEBUG [Thread-16]: => MailSender.run 2003-11-18 16:11:45,798 DEBUG [Thread-16]: => Mail.send 2003-11-18 16:11:45,798 INFO [Thread-16]: Sending message to msh1@192.168.1.10 through 192.168.1.10 2003-11-18 16:11:45,798 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => ebXMLmessage: hk.hku.cecid.phoenix.message.packaging.EbxmlMessage@1b2e165 2003-11-18 16:11:47,610 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => session.protocol: null 2003-11-18 16:11:47,611 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => session.type: null 2003-11-18 16:11:47,611 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => session.class: null 2003-11-18 16:11:47,611 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => session.vendor: null 2003-11-18 16:11:47,611 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => session.version: null 2003-11-18 16:11:47,711 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => header output: Message-ID: <12562335.1069168307711.JavaMail.root@demoserver> 2003-11-18 16:11:47,861 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => header output: From: msh2@192.168.1.10 2003-11-18 16:11:47,872 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => header output: To: msh1@192.168.1.10 2003-11-18 16:11:47,886 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => header output: Subject: Item_No_128 2003-11-18 16:11:47,896 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => header output: Mime-Version: 1.0 2003-11-18 16:11:47,910 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => header output: Content-Type: text/xml; charset="utf-8" 2003-11-18 16:11:47,922 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => header output: Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 2003-11-18 16:11:47,936 INFO [Thread-16]: mail.java => header output: SOAPAction: "ebXML" 2003-11-18 16:11:48,100 ERROR [Thread-16]: [10103] Cannot send mail message Exception: javax.mail.NoSuchProviderException Message: smtp 2003-11-18 16:11:48,103 ERROR [Thread-16]: [10002] Unknown error Exception: hk.hku.cecid.phoenix.message.transport.TransportException Message: [10103] Cannot send mail message and exception: javax.mail.NoSuchProviderException: smtp it seems to us that there is something going wrong with the session object, for that is zero in value. Hi,
I installed the 0931 release with Tomcat 4.1.12 and the JDK1.4.1 on =
win2k.
I did delete the servlet.jar file from the lib directory.
I tried to run the loopback example with the config/url set to =
http://localhost:8080/msh/ in both client and msh properties files.
But in that case I have the following error when running the =
LoopBack.bat file:
hk.hku.cecid.phoenix.message.handler.RequestException:

at LoopBack.run(LoopBack.java:30)
at LoopBack.main(LoopBack.java:11)
It seems to me that the msh cannot even be accessed but I don't know =
why.
BTW, I also get this warning everytime I start Tomcat:
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger =
(hk.hku.cecid.phoenix.message.
handler.MessageServer).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
I don't know if it is related.
Any help is welcome. Thanks.
Best regards.
