Hi, starting with eboard 0.9.5, its translation system is no longer based on GNU gettext. The .hemp file is written in plain ASCII (ISO8859-1 is a superset of ASCII, if you need a ISO8859 encoding). I believe that the proper way to make a japanese translation is writing it in S-JIS and configuring your local GTK to use S-JIS fonts. However, S-JIS is a multibyte font and I really don't know whether it'll work properly with GTK 1.2.x, which eboard is based on. Still in 2004 eboard will be ported to GTK+ 2.x.x, which is said to support encodings (like Unicode) much better. eboard is currently having issues with czech due to the encoding and I have decided that moving to GTK 2 will be the best solution. Maybe it's a good idea to wait for eboard to be ported to GTK 2 before starting a japanese translation. > Do all messages have to translate ? All messages in the .hemp _should_ be translated. If you translate only some of them, the remaining will appear in english. Thanks for the interest in translating eboard. -- Felipe Bergo |
