Settings -> ICS behavior -> Smart discard... is the solution. It will auto discard finished games unless you are observing it (it is the top pane), in which case a dead smiley will be shown in the tab, meaning that the tab will die whe you get out of it. Other than that, Settings -> Preferences -> Autosave allows auto saving to a PGN file, so if you want to keep games, you can just open the PGN. set unobserve 3 on FICS is also a good idea. But my implementation doesn't cycle thru the last 3, that's a good idea. I've been extremely busy this last semester and was unable to work properly on eboard.
