The thing i don't like about these is that it will visibly 'jump' most of the time to the correct position while scrolling. The iframe idea that was mentioned by Armin is very similar to what i suggested, it is just a different (container even) way of doing it. Another great idea. I forgot about iframes. I like that idea, because then I can load difference pages into the iframe without having to reload my menu on top. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. Ahh, figured it out! Yes, user error (figures). In explaining it in the last email I realized my error. I had stuffed references to my DynLayers in an items[] array. I then "deleted" them from the parent, great...but it's not really "deleting" them...just deleting them from that particular parent. So, since I still had pointers to them in the array, when I went back and checked the array length it was the same (since I hadn't updated that) and when I looped through it looking for the objects (expecting at least they would be null or undefined) I still found pointers to my good old objects (which is why I was confused). If they had pointed to nothing, so to speak, I would have understood. So..."deleteFromParent()" really is just removing them from the parent object, not actually deleting them? How does one actually delete them? DynObj.del()? Thanks everyone, -James _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. >Are you using the latest nightly build? Nope, I'm not using a recent nightly build. I'm on an old (2.5.6?) version. What's the best way to determine exactly what build I'm on? Anyway, it'd definitely not anything recent. > I'm not sure why are you using the items[] array, what is the type of >oCallingObject? oCallingObject is a DynLayer, or rather an object that extends DynLayer. The reason I'm using the items[] array is because the DynLayer contains 16 objects (for example). 2 of those objects are event layers that I want...wherease the other objects are put into an array so that when I want these I can grab them from that array. So, when I'm looping through oCallingObject.items.length, the first alert alert(oCallingObject + "\n" + oCallingObject.items[i]); tells me I have an object(s) where: oCallingObject = DynObject.all.DynObject10 oCallingObject.items[i].id = DynObject.all.DynObject13 So what I'm trying to do in there is say DynObject.all.DynObject10.removeChild(DynObject.all.DynObject13); But it seems like it's not happening & I can't figure out why not. I didn't overwrite .removeChild() or anything like that (in my custom object). Are you using the latest nightly build? There was a serious bug in the deleteAllChildren() function that was only fixed a few days ago (29 July). You'll need to make sure you're using the very latest version of event.js. Andrew. Oh!! I just realized that the good old <img> tag actually defaults to the behavior that I want! <img src="mypic.jpg" name="myimg"> <a href="javascript:document['myimg'].src='mynewpic.jpg'">change</a> Clicking the link will do what I wanted... I'm not sure why are you using the items[] array, what is the type of oCallingObject? To loop over all things in an object you can use the "for (var i in myObj)" loop. Example: myObj = myLayer.getChildren(); for (var i in myObj) { myObj[i].deleteFromParent(); } I know it works for layers, but never tried with other types of objects. -- Jack Chung <jac...@ne...> http://www.PerceptiveCorner.com/ On Fri, 01 Aug 2003 02:28:39 +0000 "James Musick" <jam...@ho...> wrote: > > This seems really silly, but I'm having trouble getting rid of objects > that are children of another object. > > This is the code: > > alert("fnChildLoad function: \n" + > "oCallingObject=" + oCallingObject +"\n"+ > "oCallingObject.length=" + oCallingObject.items.length); > > for(var i=0; i<oCallingObject.items.length; i++) > { > //alert(oCallingObject + "\n" + oCallingObject.items[i]); > //oCallingObject.deleteChild(oCallingObject.items[i]); > //oCallingObject.items[i].deleteFromParent(); > //oCallingObject.items[i].del(); > } > //oCallingObject.deleteAllChildren(); > > alert("fnChildLoad after delete: \n" + > "oCallingObject.length=" + oCallingObject.items.length); > > And none of these things seem to work. > Both oCallingObject & oCallingObject.items[i] (in the alert) are the > objects that I expect them to be, but the oCallingObject.items.length value > is 14 both before and after the delete I tried. Crap. I was planning on just doing it as an include, but then it will go off screen when I scroll down. I forgot that's why I was using the frames in the first place. I like the load panel idea, but I'm not sure what you mean about the scrolling container. I realize the need for one, but I'm confused about setting the css on the "container". This seems really silly, but I'm having trouble getting rid of objects that are children of another object. This is the code: alert("fnChildLoad function: \n" + "oCallingObject=" + oCallingObject +"\n"+ "oCallingObject.length=" + oCallingObject.items.length); for(var i=0; i<oCallingObject.items.length; i++) { //alert(oCallingObject + "\n" + oCallingObject.items[i]); //oCallingObject.deleteChild(oCallingObject.items[i]); //oCallingObject.items[i].deleteFromParent(); //oCallingObject.items[i].del(); } //oCallingObject.deleteAllChildren(); alert("fnChildLoad after delete: \n" + "oCallingObject.length=" + oCallingObject.items.length); And none of these things seem to work. Both oCallingObject & oCallingObject.items[i] (in the alert) are the objects that I expect them to be, but the oCallingObject.items.length value is 14 both before and after the delete I tried. I tried all the ways that seemed reasonable... The weird thing is that even though the objects are still there, something is happening to them because when I am iterating through them again some values are null that wouldn't have been null before (size, etc). Ugh!!! Any suggestions? It's driving me crazy. Hi, Is there any way I can change the src of an image so that the change occurs AFTER the new image has been loaded? Normall I do it like this: var pic=dynapi.functions.getImage('mypic.jpg', 100,100); picarea=new DynLayer("", 0,0,100,100); picarea.setHTML(pic.getHTML()); Then when I want to change picture src, i do: pic.src='newpic.jpg'; picarea.setHTML(pic.getHTML()); However, the original picture becomes blank, then the new image slowly appear as it is being downloaded. Is there anyway I can let it finish loading first, then display? I cannot preload the image at load time because the new image src URL is input by user. So, I want : User says change image > small delay (nothing changes on screen) > new image appear instantly Or, at least during the download time, keep the original image there... I don't want it be blank. Any input is appreciated! Jack -- Jack Chung <jac...@ne...> http://www.PerceptiveCorner.com/ |

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'm just going to make my top "frame" a php include on the page. Should work pretty simply and not have to do any tricky stuff. (I need to remember to use the email address subscribed to the list) Short answer: no. It might be possible if you remove that frame as an actual 'frame' and implement it some other way. For example, with dynapi, you could have the menu on a page that contains a 'container' of some sort(probably loadpanel) that expands to the width of the page and to the bottom of the browser window, and have that 'container' have a scroll bar(i don't know if you can do this in dynapi, but using css, just on the container set the css to be 'overflow:auto'). Should look pretty much the same, a little harder to create, but... it works. I'm afraid the answer is no, but I'll ask anyway. Is there a way to make a menu pop open and go over a frame? I have a little 20 pixel frame at the top of the page and I want to have menus that pop down, but that means that they would have to pop over the little frame border. Is that possible? Thanks, Jesse |

Hi Everyone So far we have the following volunteers: 1) Project manager Joy Ride (Juhu) 2) Consept designer 3) Graphic designer Diane Tomlins 4) Programmer(s) Leif W C Kissinger 5) Content provider(s) We need more persons to help out with this part of the project. It doesn't matter how small or how great a role you can play. Your time and effort is well appreciated. Besides that it's just pure fun! We need to get this part of the project started as we're planning to have DynAPI 3.0 stable (or fully launched) by November. Are we in agreement here? -- Raymond Irving __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com |

Yea, I guess you're correct. NS4 seems to add padding to it's Layers by default. Does anyone now of a way to remove this? Hi Kissinger, I think you can join the web team and assist in this area as well. This feature is well needed for the DynAPI documentation. I saved a copy of the logo. I'll start noodling around and see what I can come up with based on your thoughts. I'm sure there are other talented graphics folks on the list as well that will contribute :) Diane -----Original Message----- From: Raymond Irving [mailto:xw...@ya...] Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2003 10:38 AM To: dyn...@li... Subject: RE: [Dynapi-Help] DynAPI website upgrade Yes I'm talking about the DynAPI website: http://dynapi.sourceforge.net/dynapi/ I would like for as many users to go to the site and look at areas that we can improve on and features that you would like to see. Well I'm no design expert but I think the colors should be very attractive, smooth and cool (see www.msn.com). I'm thinking of polished, glossy looking blue or green gel like colors that can match the new logo. I'm think colors like the Windows XP blue or silver theme. Here's a view of the logo that both Juhu and Leif helped to create sometime ago: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dynapi/logos/28.gif?rev=1.1&c ontent-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup For those wanting to create templates you can check out phpwebsite here: http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu/ In short the design and colors should make viewers say "Ahh!" and "Wow!" - The Shock and Awe experience! -- Raymond Irving --- Tomlins Diane <Dia...@HC...> wrote: > Are we talking about the SourceForge site itself > that's being redesigned ? > I haven't been there in a few months :( > > Is there anything in particular as far as a design > scheme, colors etc. that > you're shooting for besides a magazine look ? > > > Diane R Tomlins > -----Original Message----- > From: Raymond Irving [mailto:xw...@ya...] > Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2003 9:46 AM > To: dyn...@li... > Subject: RE: [Dynapi-Help] DynAPI website upgrade > > > Hi Diane, > > Many thanks for you feedback.
