Does anyone have any objections to a post relating to DynAPI v1 being sent to this mailing list? I thought I would ask before posting a v1 question in order to save myself from getting charred. Thank you for your time! Jason |

Hi all, You have done a great job on getting this new version out. Congrats! I have been using this API now for a few months. I just recently set up the new version and I am now having problems with the dragging on my site. Has anyone else been experiencing a problem with the mouse not letting go of the dragged layer? Any suggestions as to why this might occur? Thanks for the help! billw |

Nope, the thing is that I don't know the size of the text and that is actually the reason for using DynAPI in the first place (Netscape you know =]). However, that it's not wokring flawlessly in IE for Mac doesn't even come close to it not working in NS 6. Though fiddling with the order that you set the properties solves most of the problems. The big problem however, always seem to stem from getWidth() and getHeight() in both Netscape 6 (PC) and IE 4.5+ (Mac). They always seem to return zero... Anyone know or have a link to a page with info about the status for DynAPI in Netscape 6? Peter, you probably solved the problem in the meantime. Mostly, the error you mentioned (DynDocument not defined) refers to some unclosed braces somwewhere in the code. It is a little bit tricky to find the position, since there is almost no relation between the line (52) of the error and the actual position. Unclosed braces can be missing ", ', ), ], or } ... Stephan -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: dyn...@li... [mailto:dyn...@li...]Im Auftrag von Peter Curran Gesendet: Freitag, 17. November 2000 17:09 An: dyn...@li... Betreff: [Dynapi-Help] Problems with DynAPI2 and Dynacore I am having some problems trying to use some of the features of the Dynacore widget package. I'm hoping someone can give me a few tips to get going. I am using the 2000.11.7 release of DynAPI2, and (AFAIK) the most recent versions of the Dynacore widgets. I'm relatively now to Javascript, and while I have spent some time attempting to fix these problems, I've probably missed something obvious to someone with more experience.... I have created three HTML files, forming a page with two frames, named "menubar" and "coolpage" (working from the DynAPI Tutorial, Part 6). First, when I try to using my page in Netscape 4.73, I get the following Javascript error: JavaScript Error: file://C:/Tools/DynApi2/dynapi/js/dynapi.js, line 52: DynDocument is not defined. This refers to a line in the loadHandler function. I have tried various things to work around this, but no luck. It appears to be a problem with the order in which things are loaded, but I haven't found the way around it. The stuff works in IE5.5, with the exception of the next problem. The second problem is that I cannot get the "label" widget to work. Nothing appears on the screen, no matter what I try. Most of the other widgets seem to do roughly what I expect, but this one, presumably the simplest of the bunch, has me stuck. I can work around this in various ways, but I'm hoping that getting an understanding of what is wrong here will help me understand more of JS and DynAPI2 in general. In the code below, I also include a button widget that seems to work fine. Anyhow, here are the three pages I am using. I have stripped them down as much as I can to demonstrate the problems. To avoid problems to anyone whose mail client displays HTML, I have changed all less-than characters to '[[' and greater-than characters to ']]' - to try the pages you'll have to substitute them back. Also, the two path names at the top of menubar.htm will have to be changed to match your setup. Thanks very much for any help. I'm quite impressed with DynAPI and the Dynacore package, but they could sure use some documentation!!! Hails! I've got an interesting problem/question. I'm using setHTML on a DynLayer and then adding an EventListener to it. I discovered that on the sections that were affected by the setHTML (i.e. the parts where the HTML shows up) do not respond to the listener. I have an onmouseover and an onmouseout. They aren't triggered while they are in the colored section of the layer however when I wander out of them and into the rest of the layer -- that is when they get executed. The way that I tested this was I had the layer double-sized (lengthwise) the mouseover dosn't happen when I enter it from the top or bottom (because that entire side is covered by the setHTML'd parts) but the sides, which are BRIGHT YELLOW (so that I know where the layer is at) do trigger the Event when I move the mouse into them. Anything that I'm doing wrong with this? What I really wanted to do was have the layer vanish when the mouse exited the DynLayer. I only added the onmouseover to see if the Events were being triggered at all. Much appreciated, Kyt. |

Sure.. remove the text-Align attribute, and surround your text in the layer with a <FONT> tag and have the align attribute on that tag. That might just do it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "R. On further investigation.. The problem seems to be isolated to: text-align; Netscape; and the setSize function. If I try to dynamically set the width of an inline DIV that I've set the text-align attribute with CSS, the contents of the DIV disappear. This appears to be a problem only with width and not height. Anyone know a work-around? Thanks. I have run into a similar problem, I found that if I specify all of the attributes of the DynLayer when instantiated that it works fine on Mac IE 4.5 and 5. Don't even try IE 4. The DHTML Support of Mac IE 4 is practically non-existant. So you would have to use the full constructor. pblayer0 = new DynLayer(10, 10, 300, 200, '#f0f0f0'); This would create the layer without errors but I see that you are trying the same thing I was. Setting the content then GETTING the height. I found that this could not be done on the Mac without the error you are referring to. I hope that pointing out that everything works fine if you specify everything on the Mac will help the developers find the problem. M. -----Original Message----- From: dyn...@li... This code even works in Netscape 4.05, the browser of horror =) Regards, Peter Bartholdsson <html> <head> <title>Untitled</title> </head> <script language="Javascript" src="/js/dynapi.js"></script> <script language="Javascript"> DynAPI.setLibraryPath('/js/lib/'); DynAPI.include('dynapi.api.dynlayer'); DynAPI.include('dynapi.api.browser'); DynAPI.include('dynapi.api.dyndocument'); DynAPI.onLoad=function() { // browser = new Browser(); pblayer0 = new DynLayer(); pblayer0.setBgColor('#f0f0f0'); pblayer0.moveTo(10, 10); pblayer0.setWidth('300'); this.document.addChild(pblayer0); pblayer0.setHTML('hej hej<br>Bluttan blä på er alla!'); pblayer0.setHeight(pblayer0.getContentHeight()); pblayer1 = new DynLayer(); pblayer1.setBgColor('#c0c0c0'); pblayer1.setHTML('hej hej<br>Bluttan blä på er alla!'); pblayer1.moveTo(pblayer0.getX() + 0, pblayer0.getY() + pblayer0.getHeight() + 10); pblayer1.setWidth(pblayer0.getWidth() + 0); this.document.addChild(pblayer1); pblayer2 = new DynLayer(); pblayer2.setBgColor('#a0a0a0'); pblayer2.setHTML('hej hej<br>Bluttan blä på er alla!'); pblayer2.moveTo(pblayer0.getX() + pblayer0.getWidth() + 10, pblayer0.getY() + 0); pblayer2.setWidth('300'); pblayer2.setHeight(pblayer1.getHeight() + pblayer1.getHeight() + 10); this.document.addChild(pblayer2); pblayer3 = new DynLayer(); pblayer3.setBgColor('#808080'); pblayer3.setHTML('hej hej<br>Bluttan blä på er alla!'); pblayer3.moveTo(pblayer1.getX() + 0, pblayer1.getY() + pblayer1.getHeight() + 10); pblayer3.setWidth(pblayer1.getWidth() + pblayer2.getWidth() + 10); this.document.addChild(pblayer3); } </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> |

Haven't looked at your code yet, but just a fast note that I recently (last weekend) uploaded a new set of widgets to work with the latest DynAPI (atleast tested with Dynacore) so if you have older widgets you'll probably need to update. sorry, but that's all for now (haven't got much time :) Pascal Bestebroer pa...@dy... http://www.dynamic-core.net > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: dyn...@li... > [mailto:dyn...@li...]Namens Peter Curran > Verzonden: vrijdag 17 november 2000 17:09 > Aan: dyn...@li... > Onderwerp: [Dynapi-Help] Problems with DynAPI2 and Dynacore > > > I am having some problems trying to use some of the features of the > Dynacore widget package. Not sure, but the problem might be in the getContentHeight() not working correctly, try replacing that with a normal height value and see if it fixes things. if so, it's a DynAPI bug :) Pascal Bestebroer pa...@dy... http://www.dynamic-core.net > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: dyn...@li... > [mailto:dyn...@li...]Namens Peter > Bartholdsson > Verzonden: vrijdag 17 november 2000 17:33 > Aan: dyn...@li... > Onderwerp: [Dynapi-Help] getHeight() not working in ns 6 > > > Hi all, > > This little piece of code works fine on everything but > IE4+ on Mac and Netscape 6... getWidth() and getHeight() > seems to be the problem in both cases. > As I'm quite new to the DynAPI I'm very interested in any > comments on my way of using it that may cause this problem. > > This code even works in Netscape 4.05, the browser of horror =) > > Regards, > Peter Bartholdsson > > > <html> > <head> > <title>Untitled</title> > </head> > > <script language="Javascript" src="/js/dynapi.js"></script> > <script language="Javascript"> > DynAPI.setLibraryPath('/js/lib/'); > DynAPI.include('dynapi.api.dynlayer'); > DynAPI.include('dynapi.api.browser'); > DynAPI.include('dynapi.api.dyndocument'); > DynAPI.onLoad=function() { > // browser = new Browser(); > pblayer0 = new DynLayer(); > pblayer0.setBgColor('#f0f0f0'); > pblayer0.moveTo(10, 10); > pblayer0.setWidth('300'); > this.document.addChild(pblayer0); > pblayer0.setHTML('hej hej<br>Bluttan blä på er alla!'); > pblayer0.setHeight(pblayer0.getContentHeight()); > pblayer1 = new DynLayer(); > pblayer1.setBgColor('#c0c0c0'); > pblayer1.setHTML('hej hej<br>Bluttan blä på er alla!'); > pblayer1.moveTo(pblayer0.getX() + 0, pblayer0.getY() + > pblayer0.getHeight() > + 10); > pblayer1.setWidth(pblayer0.getWidth() + 0); > this.document.addChild(pblayer1); > pblayer2 = new DynLayer(); > pblayer2.setBgColor('#a0a0a0'); > pblayer2.setHTML('hej hej<br>Bluttan blä på er alla!'); > pblayer2.moveTo(pblayer0.getX() + pblayer0.getWidth() + 10, > pblayer0.getY() > + 0); > pblayer2.setWidth('300'); > pblayer2.setHeight(pblayer1.getHeight() + > pblayer1.getHeight() + 10); > this.document.addChild(pblayer2); > pblayer3 = new DynLayer(); > pblayer3.setBgColor('#808080'); > pblayer3.setHTML('hej hej<br>Bluttan blä på er alla!'); > pblayer3.moveTo(pblayer1.getX() + 0, pblayer1.getY() + > pblayer1.getHeight() > + 10); > pblayer3.setWidth(pblayer1.getWidth() + pblayer2.getWidth() + 10); > this.document.addChild(pblayer3); > > } > </script> > </head> > > <body> > > </body> > </html> > > _______________________________________________ > Dynapi-Help mailing list > Dyn...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/dynapi-help > |

Check your widget code. There should be a series of lines in the code that read something like this: function Widget(){ ... this.id = "WidgetType" + (Widget.count++) ... } Widget.count = 0 These lines are supposed to generate a unique ID for each widget. Some of the earlier IBS and WidgetX widgets were missing these lines. If these lines are missing, the Widget code will take the first argument you pass in the constructor and use it as the ID (this is because DynLayer is set up to take the first argument as the ID, and since all widgets are now based off DynLayer, they will too). So if you have more than one widget with the same value for the first argument, you would have conflicting IDs. Does that make sense? scottandrew |

Hello, Is there a way to set other CSS properties (other than position, w/h, bgcolor) with DynAPI2? I want to be able to set text-align, margins etc. on an inline Div. However, if I set, for example, 'text-align:right' with regular CSS and then use Dynlayers for w/h and position, the contents of the Div get lost in Netscape (4.72 on Mac). Thanks. Sean |

The whole idea was to stop the possibility of adding a layer into a document which has already been added .This will cause some nasty problems (As you can imagine) such as crashing the browser. I noticed that trying to load the page in netscape, as a test, failed with absolutly nothing happening. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Henrik Olsen" <hen...@ad...> To: <dyn...@li...> Sent: Friday, November 17, 2000 7:23 AM Subject: [Dynapi-Help] DynLayer generating layers with similar names > Hi > > I'm working on a popup menu for the DynAPI, but ran into a strange problem. > Somehow the DynLayer manages to make layers with similar ID's.
