It must be due to something in the DynAPI core objects. Nothing of Scrollbar/Scrollpane is browser specific. What happens with ScrollBar and ViewPort? ScrollPane is merely a customized ViewPort so that has to work first. Well, I am going to need to use the scrollBar (or scrollpane) this week as the deadline for this project draws near.. sO, if anyone HAS fixed their copy PLEASE let me know, if not tho, then expect a fixed copy from myself later this week.. (It has to work, so I'll have to fix it wirght?) I do hope someone beats me to it though.. Be warned.. my version WILL have semicolons. :-) Thank you, Doug Melvin Integrated System Solutions: Design, Development, Implementation and Support Creative-Workshop.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tarun R Elankath" <ta...@we...> To: <dyn...@li...> Sent: Tuesday, November 28, 2000 7:48 AM Subject: [Dynapi-Help] Help with ScrollPane > Help Dan! > > The ScrollPane widget doesnt seem to be working in IE. Help Dan! The ScrollPane widget doesnt seem to be working in IE. The weird thing is that works perfectly in Netscape, and there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the code. However "oncreate" is not called in the case of IE, and nothing appears on the screen. The example that you have provided with this widget also doesnt work at first. One needs to set the path to the scrollpane images and then it works fine, but only in Netscape. :-( Any ideas or suggestions to get it working ? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Rattray" <da...@ia...> To: <dyn...@li...> Sent: Tuesday, November 28, 2000 6:16 PM Subject: [Dynapi-Help] new to DynApi 2 > I'm new to this version of DynApi and am having trouble getting to grips > with it. I'm new to this version of DynApi and am having trouble getting to grips with it. I downloaded the link that Dan provided: http://fury161.dyndns.org/dynapi-2000.11.07-danwidgets.zip but didn't see any clear cut files showing me Scrollpane, Scrollbar, Button, Label, ButtonImage and PushPanel. Am I overlooking something? Can someone point me in the right direction. I found the tutorials on dansteinman.com for the original DynAPI dynlayer very useful in learning everything but have not found anything like that so far for DynAPI 2. I need help basically in the knowledge of how images are swapped in this new version within layers and how to do the scroll window. Folks, I apologize if this message turns out to be a repeat, my email has been precarious today. First, please let me echo the comments of everyone here who has thanked the developers of this great package. It's a great learning tool as well as a useful package. I'm using the popup widget to display nested menus in a simple web application, and I'm having a problem with Internet Explorer. Every time I load the page containing the popup it takes a bit longer to load, and every time Internet Explorer 5.5 uses about 2 megs more of RAM. After loading the page 15 or 20 times it seems that the page loads instantly from the server, but there's a delay of 7 or 8 seconds before the browser displays the top popup. (This is on a 400MHZ P2.) (IE4.5 on the Mac never does get enough ram to display my popups even once. Netscape seems fine.) I've tried adding alert()'s to the onDelete functions of the various dynlayer-derived classes and verified that they're being called. If I can't fix this problem I'll have to scrap what I've done and use something other than these routines, and I don't want to do that. Does anyone else have this experience? Is there a workaround? I know there was a memory leak in innerHTML in IE 5.0, but it's supposed to have been fixed. Thanks! Andrew Forber |

Okay, here's a little more information. Here's a sample piece of code that I am working with. I am keeping simple so it is easy to work with and analyze. DynAPI.setLibraryPath('../../include/dynapi/Core/js/lib/'); DynAPI.include('dynapi.api.dynlayer.js'); DynAPI.include('dynapi.api.browser.js'); DynAPI.include('dynapi.api.dyndocument.js'); DynAPI.onLoad=function() { myLayer=new DynLayer(); myLayer.setBgColor('#c0c0c0'); myLayer.moveTo(100,100); myLayer.setVisible(false); myLayer.setHTML("Testing HTML..."); DynAPI.document.addChild(myLayer); x = myLayer.getContentWidth(); y = myLayer.getContentHeight(); alert(x + " x " + y); myLayer.setSize(x, y); myLayer.setVisible(true); } This bit of code on the PC display an alert box displaying "102 x 19". This is what I expect. On the macintosh the alert box displays "0 x 0". I am not familiar with the codebase but from what I can see the size of the DynLayer is set somewhere in addChild() if it was not specified when instantiated. If I try to get x and y before the addChild() line it always returns 0s. I see that addChild() calls createElement(), in createElement() there is some browser detection going on. In some instances the width and height are being set, in other they are not. Is this just a problem with getContentWidth() and Height() not returning the proper information on the macintosh? -- Matthew |

Yes I am able to set the size without a problem after I use setHTML(). But that is not the problem. On the PC the size is automatically reset when the HTML changes if the size was omitted when created. This does not happen on the mac. I do not know what the size of the content will be. It will by dynamically loaded from a database. I need to be able to set the content, have it automatically adjust, then return the size. This works perfectly on NS and IE on windows but does not work on IE 4.5 or 5 on the Mac. Before the setWidth, setHeight patch attempting to create a DynLayer without specifying width and height produced and error. With the patch there is no error but it appears if you do not specify the width and height it is set to 0. When I use setHTML() it does not grow to the size of the content. If this is a limitation of the browser and not the library I guess I have to live with it but I would like to know where the limitation is. If there is a method to call that I am not aware of like 'setSizeToContent()' that would be great... if anyone knows of a workaround please let me know. I am bound to support the Mac as much as I hate them, so any help would be appreciated. -- Matthew -----Original Message----- From: dyn...@li... Are you calling your code on DynAPI.onload? If not, I believe that document.body.x is undefined in IE. I downloaded the widget set that you refered. Thanks a million Dan! Those Widgets Look Wonderful! However I faced a few problems with it. They go like this : -> The example for scrollpane widget doesnt work in Internet Explorer. It works OK in Netscape (after changing the theme path). The funny thing is that the 'oncreate' method itself doesnt get called for IE. I couldnt figure out where the problem for IE lay with. -> Uh... The second problem I figured out while typing this sentence. By the way, how come there is not mention of these widgets anywhere on the sourceforge sites ( and neither yours as well) ? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dan Steinman" <dy...@fu...> To: <dyn...@li...> Sent: Tuesday, November 28, 2000 3:34 AM Subject: Re: [Dynapi-Help] Where are the widgets ? > I have a few widgets that work with the latest release, you can download them along with the 11.07 release from: > > http://fury161.dyndns.org/dynapi-2000.11.07-danwidgets.zip > > That includes Scrollpane, Scrollbar, Button, Label, ButtonImage, and PushPanel. > > Dan > > > On Sun, Nov 26, 2000 at 08:15:06PM +0000, Tarun Ramakrishna Elankath wrote: > > I am resuming using the DynAPI after a period of time. My directory structure is fine. I'm using a single dot because that's how my structure is setup: myFolder --->js ------->lib ----------->dynapi ---------------------->api ---------------------->ext ---------------------->gui The problem is somewhere in either the loadHTML-public.js. I'm having a bit of a problem... Using the example dynapi.api.mouseevents.htm try adding an image to myLayer using the setHTML command; it will break in Mac IE5. All of the mouseEvents still work in mac nav 4.x, but none of them work in IE5. I've tried rearranging load orders and the usual tricks, but to no avail. Hey all, I have seen this question asked a few times in one form or another but I have yet to see any kind of answer. Even a "that's not possible" answer would be preferable to nothing at all. I am creating a DynLayer then using setHtml() to set it's contents. This works perfectly on the windows platform. On the Mac it is a different story. First trying to create a DynLayer and omitting the size generated an error. There was a patch posted that fixed the error but did not actually fix the problem. Now if you omit the size and then set the html it looks like the size is effectively 0. It does not adjust to fit the content on the Mac like it does on the PC browsers. I want to know if anyone has a workaround other than using inline layers for this problem. Currently I am using inline layers but this opens up a whole other category of problems for me. My second problem, once again on the mac, has to do with layers inside of layers. If I create two DynLayers and add the second to the first as a child then add the first to the document I get very strange rendering errors. For example if the second layer contains text, the text is repeated where it is supposed to be, then duplicated at the origin of the parent layer, and then duplicated again at the origin of the parent document. This one is really weird and I don't really anticipate an answer. Thanks in advance, Matthew |

I have a few widgets that work with the latest release, you can download them along with the 11.07 release from: http://fury161.dyndns.org/dynapi-2000.11.07-danwidgets.zip That includes Scrollpane, Scrollbar, Button, Label, ButtonImage, and PushPanel. Folks, First, please let me echo the comments of everyone here who has thanked the developers of this great package.
