I'm pretty consigned to the fact that doing high-level DHTML (more then move this, slide that, etc) in IE5 Mac is a fantasy. Even when we get the page working bug free it misrenders complex widgets altogether (skin windows show up "half dressed", not a pretty thing. On the other hand we've had pretty good luck with NS for the Mac. So.... yes it's disclaimer time. Got Mac? Get NS! and hope IE6 beta hits sooooooon. Any word on the net on this??????? Or,... better yet get a PC! I have a scrollpane object in a page. When I resize the page in Netscape 4.75, it gets re-drawn correctly, but when I click on an arrow to scroll in the window, I get the following error: JavaScript Error: http://warthog2/dynapi/js/lib/dynapi/gui/buttonimage.js, line 67: this.doc.images[this.id + "Image"] has no properties. Any thoughts? IE5 handles this just fine. Jon |

You should delete them yourself, I've did some tests with it, and it looks like the browsers actually stay more stable when you remove layers aswell :) Note to other developers: I think there should be some code in the DynAPI.unloadHandler that takes care of this..something like: DynAPI.document.deleteAllChildren() It will be hard to do it like this on frame-documents, but maybe we should keep track of them.. (My new code will do that, because DynDocuments (apart from main document) won't be added to the DynAPI automatically, they should be added using the DynAPI.addChild() code placing them all in the DynAPI.children array, and making it easier to delete all layers created) Pascal Bestebroer pa...@dy... http://www.dynamic-core.net > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: dyn...@li... > [mailto:dyn...@li...]Namens Martin Weinelt > Verzonden: maandag 4 december 2000 15:53 > Aan: dyn...@li... > Onderwerp: [Dynapi-Help] Delete DynLayers onUnload? > > > Hi, > > I am still excited about the DynAPI, thanks to all who contribute. > > Now that I have created some DynLayers, would I want to > deleteFromParent these layers as described in Pascals chapter on > 'Creating and deleting dynlayers' when the document unLoads? > > Or is this taken care of by some code in the API? > > Martin > _______________________________________________ > Dynapi-Help mailing list > Dyn...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/dynapi-help > |

Hi, I am still excited about the DynAPI, thanks to all who contribute. Now that I have created some DynLayers, would I want to deleteFromParent these layers as described in Pascals chapter on 'Creating and deleting dynlayers' when the document unLoads? Or is this taken care of by some code in the API? Martin |

Hi Thank you to all contributing developers working on the DynAPI 2 project. Excellent work. I am a Coldfusion developer and I have been using the scroll2 and list widgets from DynAPI 1 for a while and will be looking forward to upgrading to the DynAPI 2 when its officially released. (currently in R&D) Try this link: http://www.choice.com.au/calculators/washer1.cfm a) Leave all options default on the "Your Wish List" page, then hit the "Find Them For Me" at the bottom of the page. b) Select two or three profiles (the checkbox), then hit the "Show Me Detailed Profiles" at the bottom of the page. The next page has the scroll2 widget loaded by external html and with customised scrollbar, and page data populated with data from the SQL Server 7.0 database via ColdFusion as well as the list widget populated with your selections from the previous page(s). Some Questions: 1. Will the new scroll widget have optional horizontal and vertical scrollbars? 2. Will IlMaestro's version of his scroll object have a transparent background and the ability to customise the scrollbars. I am thinking of developing a widget to scroll through a series of preloaded thumbnail jpg images, similar to the gifanim demo, either by a horizontal scrollbar or VCR type controls. Also the ability to select the currently visible image to view a larger image or whatever. Is it possible to do this and has anyone already developed such a widget? If not I will have to give it a go. New to this so I will need some pointers first. Who ever developed www.zara.com deserves a medal. Mind blowing stuff. I just found Dan's site in my bookmark file, and I'm wondering if there are more examples for api 1 and 2? I've played around with api 1, since the examples there was the most compelling ones;), and it is impressive. When I tried to implement my own stuff, though, I consistently seemed to break the library down. Don't know why. Therefore, since I learn by examples, I need more. -- Paul K Egell-Johnsen Developer/PR Manager eZ systems as http://ez.no/ |

I finally found the time to do "some" typing.. and here's the result :) This developers reference is based on my new (work in progress) DynAPI code, so it's not correct for the current official DynAPI model, but with some tweaking it should be a nice reference for anybody needing more inside information. The main differences are in the DynObject.. basically you could see all the DynObject stuff as a DynLayer or DynDocument reference. Maybe some one can change and shuffle the text abit so that it's correct for the DynAPI model. I used the W3C stylesheet and reference style, so this should look familiar to anybody knowing how to read/use those W3C documents :) Another note I want to make, and this will probably get some people ticked off, is the fact that this list is great for discussing problems of the DynAPI, but I think there's way to much discussions going on and not alot of actual development. I mean there are discussions running about adding semmicoloms to every line, or adding comments into the source files.. I don't think that's real important stuff, and I'm not going to spend time arguing over those "ideas" when there are still things like widget-creation, debugging and other important things that can be done. One thing I will say about it is that I don't understand why people don't take the time to add those ; characters them selves, or study the code and learn it that way (that's the way we all learned it). ...sadly, this is probably gonna cause some more discussions about nothing. I think if the guys spend too much time on doing documentation it leaves less time to do some developing on the API itself. A nice solution would be an effort on the part of us, people interested on having some reference doc up and running, to set up some kind of collaborative effort, that people here on the list can correct, if something is wrong, or add to it if something is ommitted. Though i'm always short on time (who isn't?) things are slowing down now that we are approaching Christmas, so I'm wouldn't mind starting writing a bit on this. What you guys think? Best, NunoF -----Original Message----- Charles LaShure This is my first post to the list, so please excuse me if I repeat some things that have already been discussed... I've read through Pascal's tutorials, which I have found to be very informative. As is stated in the very first tutorial, though, it is apparent the code I now have in front of me is much different from the code I used once upon a time. Although I fear the answer will be in the negative, is there a listing of all the methods available to the new DynLayer, along with the proper syntax for each? Nothing fancy, just something like: moveBy (x,y) -moves layer to x,y moveTo (x,y) -moves layer by x,y etc. and things like how to change layer visibility, etc. All I've been able to find is the tutorials. Is there any way to change the characterset that a layer that is generated using setHTML is using? I have some layers that are working above on a page using the utf-8 charset. They work fine in IE but when viewed in Netscape the first time a layer pops up it changes the characters that it was "covering" into hollow boxes as if it cannot render the font beneath. I'm guessing that maybe the setHTML is giving it a different character-set and Netscape is creating some sort of bug when it tries to re-render the page beneath. The layers appear fine, it's the page that starts getting distorted. If there is some way to make setHTML or a DynLayer itself has a charset...? If anyone has seen this happen before I'd appreciate if they knew what could be done about it. Kyt. |

Dan, I know that this is just an oversite, or just a coding style that I am unfamiliar with, but on line 50 of dynaimage.js you have a method: /* DynImage.prototype.getImage = function (imgObject) { return this.img; } */ and then on line 61, same method name again, totally different code, but without the 'prototype'... /* DynImage.getImage=function(src) { var img = new Image(); img.src = src; return img; } */ Also, I got a kick out of the alert debug that was left in there on line 38 :-) ... a coding style that I AM very familiar with!! One last question (which is really still the same question repeated): I assume that in the following line of code you responded with was just a change to make to your dynimage.js, in the set Image method, correct? Then, create an "update" method which will dynamically change the image's width and height (this was my original question -- how to do this?), or should the update method be rewriting the IMG tag all together? <!-- <img src=file border=0 onload=update()> --> Thank you (in advance) for your advice, Michael Lilli -- aka: proteanman On Fri, 01 December 2000, Dan Steinman wrote: > > You won't need to write all of this object. You won't need to write all of this object. I have a DynImage object that inserts 1 image into layer and can easily change it. In DynImage I did not yet include auto-resizing to the size of the image, so if you get this working it should be included in DynImage and not as a DynLayer extension (I'd like to move away from having DynLayer do everything because it's not supposed to do everything, only layer management). You can retrieve the size of the image but it must be done after the image has completed loading. You write the html with no width/height defined and set the onload handler: <img src=file border=0 onload=update()> In the handler you should be able to retrieve the image's .width and .height properties correctly and then resize the layer accordingly.
