By updating mono using the info given in the link you provided, 
dwsim_50u1 is starting :-)

However, while trying to solve a simple flow sheet it throws me an error 
message:
"[ERROR] [12/08/2017 12:43:03] MS-002: This feature uses a 
platform-specific, unmanaged (non-.NET) native library, which doesn't 
work with CPU Parallel Processing enabled. Please disable CPU Parallel 
Processing and try again."

Any ideas where I could disable CPU Parallel Processing for DWSIM or how 
to otherwise resolve this issue ?
