I am happy to report that 0.94.1 compiles with no errors or warnings under x86_64 Gentoo Linux 2006.0.

Now, I have the original data files, as well as Super Dune 2. How do I get from there to the unpacked directory structure dunelegacy needs?
This should probably be added to the README.

I put the binary in the directory with the Dune2 files, but I get this error:

    > ls
    ATRE.PAK   ENGLISH.PAK  HARK.PAK      MERC.PAK      SETUP.EXE     SOUND.PAK
    DUNE.PAK   FINALE.PAK   INTRO.PAK     ONETIME.DAT   SETUPENG.DIP  VOC.PAK
    DUNE2.EXE  FRENCH.PAK   INTROVOC.PAK  ORDOS.PAK     SETUPFRE.DIP
    DUNE2.ICO  GERMAN.PAK   MENTAT.PAK    SCENARIO.PAK  SETUPGER.DIP dunelegacy
    > ./dunelegacy

You will have to use the extractor for that.

Unfortunately for you and me, I can only find that extractor in the form of some source code with no Makefile or configuration script what-so-ever.

I cannot compile this, for the love of god, and I wish someone would have put a binary version of this somewhere, not just the source as an afterthought.

It's probably some Win32 style sourcecode.

How about reading the README file?
The README tells you to check the wiki for details and also refers to #dunelegacy @ irc.freenode.net..
