There's an alternative European three language v1.07 of Dune II which replaces French and German with Italian and Spanish, using the same .FRE and .GER extensions of the French and German translations rather than adding new ones. This is an official version released by Westwood and Virgin in 1993, it's not a fantranslation of any kind. Dune Legacy can employ the .PAK files of Dune II v1.07 English/Italian/Spanish to work, but there's absolutely no way to play it in either Italian (uses .FRE files, so "French" language has to be selected) or Spanish (uses .GER files, so "German" language has to be selected). In both cases, the game displays this c++ runtime error message: http://i42.tinypic.com/2hpqdti.jpg
I hope these languages could added to subsequent releases. Since they are stored in files which have the very same extensions as French and German, I suppose these languages would have to be implemented by detecting and accepting the reworked version of these files, something which is not possible in the current version.

.FRE and .GER files are unpacked in the italian/spanish version. You need to pack them into FRENCH.PAK/GERMAN.PAK with a program like WWPAK, then they will work in Dune Legacy.

The game is Abandonware, it's legal now.
And modify the engine to have the real choice with these 5 langages :D

Files for Italian localization attached. Please add them to the official download. Note that the PAK file did not exist in Dune 2; the Italian release used unpacked files not supported by Dune Legacy. I created it as said in older post, with the original texts.
Like Italian in previous post, and unlike localization included in official installer, this localization uses the original Spanish Dune 2 texts put into a PAK.
