Hi all! > What about adding the -d flag too and see if it tells more ? It doesn't. I compiled the new version of dump/restore (and installed e2fslib-dev with apt-get), which was quite easy. Then I made a dump of the /tmp again like I did yesterday. Here is the sobering result: debianbox:/usr/local/dump-0.4b29/restore# mt -f /dev/nst0 status drive type = Generic SCSI-2 tape drive status = 452984832 sense key error = 0 residue count = 0 file number = 5 block number = -1 Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x1b (unknown). Soft error count since last status=0 General status bits on (9010000): EOD ONLINE IM_REP_EN debianbox:/usr/local/dump-0.4b29/restore# ./restore -d -i -f /dev/nst0 -b 10 ./restore: Tape read error on first record Mhm, any ideas?
