Thank you for this. Sorry, taken me a while to have a chance to check properly - I was concerned that the tape variable got written to the tape and so needed to be nul padded to avoid random data being written but now I've checked I see I was misremembering and this all looks good.
I'll need to run some tests but hopefully I can get this merged soon.
