I'm having very inconsistent results with ctorrent where sometimes it fails to do anything except say "error, initial meta info failed".
My torrent is a directory containing nothing except (up to) 2 gb ghost spanned image files (37 GB total) and is created using utorrent (v181 or 184).
If I split some of the files into different directories, I can create smaller torrents which are parsable by ctorrent -x
I have identified one file, 2H_13005.ghs, which seems to be a cause of trouble for ctorrent. Every torrent I create with it in the directory is unparsable -- even if I put it in a directory by itself. However, removing it and creating a torrent with all the other files does not work either (splitting the others into smaller torrents does work). utorrent does not have problems with these torrents.
This is a very strange problem and it is making ctorrent almost unusable for me.
I ran into the same problem several months ago and was able to figure out a workaround by renaming one of the files in the torrent. This time I have not been able to make that work.
The file you've attached doesn't cause a problem for me with dnh3.3.2 or newer development code. What version are you using, and on what platform?
I'm using dnh3.3.2 or 3.2 on WinXP SP3.
I get the same error on several torrents. All of them were created by magnet2torrent.com and each contains only 1 file.
Update: in my case it looks like ctorrent seeks "announce" in the torrent and doesn't find it.
