So, who's all involved in DS Developer Guild?
Here are some things to mention:
List your interests in the project (3D models, animation, 2D, Siege Editor, Siege FX, GAS, coding, story, quests, etc)

Any previous experience with games, development, etc?

    Any expectations or comments?

I have been developing software for a long time... but only about 9 years of others paying me to do it. I am currently developing E-Commerce systems. I've been involved in open source community before. I also have another project I'm developing (slowly): http://sdm.sourceforge.net

My interests in the project are in EVERYTHING (3D, 2D, Code, sound, project mngt, story, etc). I think DS will be an awesome game that is completely configurable. This is one of the reasons why I started DSDevGuild.

My expectations are to learn a lot about the game development process and tools in a team environment while sharing our knowledge with others. I expect that we will have one of the first quests created for DS and our quests will be highly ranked in the DS community!

I've been into art since I was 12. and I have loved/hated computers as long as I can remember.

check out my resume/portfolio for that kind of stuff...

I have been trying to find good employment in computer art for several yrs, and right now, gaming is the place where all the money is going.

I would love to work full time at this! and the one thing stoping me is that all the companys want you to have developed a game level/mod.

Sooo, here I am! and its been real fun so far!

        Jesse Cameron - 2002-01-18

I am currently a CS student at Mississippi State University. My plans are to be a game designer/programmer soon, that is why I joined: the experience.
I am also a writer and a musician.
I want to learn 3d tools, but I am not very good with them, so I will just do what I can. I am a good programmer. I also feel quite confident in the design department, because I have done that since I was 15.
That is about all I can think of.

    • Richard Dublon

      Richard Dublon - 2002-01-18

I have an Associates degree in Computer Science and im a decent c++ programmer with alot of knowledge in object oriented programming. In two weeks i start at one of the top computer training schools around and will be learning mainly java with some vb mixed in. Im also a musician. I too want to get into the gaming industry and hopefully this mod will give me some valuable experience.

In terms of what id like to do on this project i want to have a hand in everything except for the art aspects since i have no artistic skills whatsoever.

Oh yeah, as far as what I want to do in this project... I am interested in inputing 3D artwork, such as models, landscapes, textures, surface maps, character creation (time permitting),animation of atmosphere, water, and whatever is needed, I am looking forward to animating a character when we are all set with the landscape, and other buildings and such.

      Joe Bell - 2002-01-26

I am currently a network administrator at PAJ Inc. Dallas. No degree in anything (wished I had one). I have studied computers and servers inside and out on my own, book after book after book. I can learn almost any software very qickly. I'v built e-commerce sites before this job, that's where the HTML, Cold Fusion, and Design work came into play for me, before that company I only dabbled in those areas. My family is genetically artistically inclined (sounds funny doesn't it?), e.g. my mom, grandma, brother, aunts where/are artists of some sort, (no publised names of course). So here I am, I still love art, I am very intrigued by 3D art, I am pretty good with 2D art also, and hopefully I can contribute in that area.

      Ehm ... okey dokey.
I am currently a computer sciences student at the university of Dortmund, Germany.
I have programmed very little in the past (just what I learned in the lectures), but I am looking forward for a traineeship starting in two weeks (Programming of a small game *g*).
Apart from that I have been roleplaying for 10 years now.
So ... I want to contribute into telling a story full of atmosphere and gain some knowledge about creating a game.
I would like to be one of those using the siege editor (when it is available) ...

I'm presently a DBA at a market information company in the UK. At work I use Informix SQL, Perl, UNIX shells, etc, etc. I'm starting to get into Java a bit.

I'd like to contribute by offering any skills with skrit/GAS/SiegeFX that I develop. My own project is to develop at least one spell school, maybe more. For details see the SpellForge forum.

    • Jeromiah C. Prentice

I'm an experienced DM (D&D, for those of you that never played) and i've done worlds of creation (and creation of worlds, for that matter) and i love the thrill of creating something and having other people, especially people you don't know, play through YOUR creation and enjoy it.  this is my first go at doing something not on pen and paper (or excel) and i expect to have loads of fun doing it.  my strong points lie (in my opinion) in story developement and various skill/magic/char/monster developement.  i've played around with gmax a bit, and desperately need a new video card, but i do learn quickly and i'm sure that i'll be a help with 3d modeling and mapping and such.  great to be here!  maybe i'll learn how to compose some groovin' tunes while i'm here, as well...

      Andy McCann - 2002-03-07

EE by degree Sales by choice.  Like most of you all I am new to this enviroment but am eager to learn.  My talent for this project is reading emails and checking for spelling errors.  Just kidding....  I'm a big fan of fantasy/scifi and am hoping to add to the story line. (if I could ever keep up with emails)

As a side note - several of us get together on Monday nights at 8:30 for AOEII:Conquerors (and randomly during the week) come join in. zone name is IFL_Grover234. ZM me and mention DS.

    • T. Carl Kwoh

      T. Carl Kwoh - 2002-03-20

Hey all, I'm a CS student about to graduate from University of Puget Sound in WA.  I've been interested in game design for quite a while and am working towards a career in that path.

My set of skills include programming and design.  I have limited (Read as: almost nonexistant) art skills.

Recently I've been a Project Manager on several class projects and have found that I enjoy that position as well and it naturally fits how I approach things.

I got involved in this whole scene through wanting some experience.  I met Ken Levine once and he had told me that Modding was one of the newer ways to get into the industry, so why not.

What I want out of this is to create a mod that people will play and enjoy.  Hopefully that'll happen.

    • Jeremy Knudsen

      Jeremy Knudsen - 2002-03-20

I am a design professional with foundations in fine art, graphic design, interface design, and multimedia authoring.  I design for information, interaction, visuals, and for motion.  I like to dabble in audio, using DigiDesign ProTools (my friends are musicians and I aspire to be their producer some day) ;)

My interests in the project are:

      2D Graphics
      Animation
      Code Scripting
      Siege Editor
      Siege FX
Storyboarding for Quest Concept Development and Storylines
      Web Design

My experience with games comes mainly from just playing them, however I've created a lot of MUD characters and have programmed a lot of triggers/functions/etc. in zMUD.

I have been doing UI work for a large corporation that makes software for the last two years.  Most likely you have seen my work. :)

I want to be part of this guild in order to be a contributer to the creation of first-class mods!  And I fully expect with the culmination of talent here, we will succeed.

    • Patrick Karjala

      Patrick Karjala - 2002-03-21

I'm with RylanEv at the University of Puget Sound, though I still have a year to go before my graduation.

I'm minoring in CS, which doesn't mean that I lack coding skills.  My main talent lies in website design and low-level HTML hacking (read: writing).  I prefer to write websites using a text editor such as Notepad, SimpleText, or emacs.  As for my programming skills, they are not half bad.  I have an eye for digging through code and finding out the little details and bugs that elude me.

My major, Theatre Arts, is where I hope to get into the game industry.  There is a very loose represenatation among our field for voice actors in games, and I hope to change that.  It is something that I have always wanted to do...and hopefully will be able to someday.

    • Evan Heath

      Evan Heath - 2002-03-27

Well it appears from the rest of you guys info that I'm the youngun here.

I've been into computers since I can remember; I grew up along side them. I remember when I young and was waiting eagerly for Doom to come out. 3d I thought! Although Wolf3d was 3d this one was truly 3d as it included the use of the Y-axis. Geez, that was a breakthrough back then and look at things now. Whole 3d worlds like that of DS.

I used computer mostly for games and they quickly became my consuming passion, I learned everything else related to computer to help me play my games.

Later on I did start to use computer for more creative purposes. Making web-pages was one of favourite things, I remember putting my first site up on GeoCities thinking "Wow! Everyone in the world can see this!" Although now, I'd rather they didn't as it was quite lame.

Then I started to stuff around with 3ds Max and learnt how to model, and I'm still learning.

I also write a fair few storys, none I ever finish. I'd like to one of my story idea into a DS Siegelet sometime.

In the real world I'm studying IT (Information Technology) at TAFE, and I'm not really sure what area of computer I want to work in. Games would be a great area to work in but I'm not holding my breath. If this can somehow help me get a job in gaming that'd be great but I mainly do this for fun!

      Intrested in doing any:
      3d Modeling
      Story Writing
      Map/World Making

I hope I didn't make any typos cause by the looks of it there's no "edit" button... *gulp*

    • Mark Hechim

      Mark Hechim - 2002-03-28

I am an web and database developer for a small startup.  But, I'm more interested in doing some 3d stuff for you all than I am in coding.  I've also been dabbling in music for as long as I can remember, and have all this junk in my room I rarely use (good mic, Korg Triton, PC with all the fixings, guitar and bass guitar).
I've been dabbling in 3d studio max for a long time, but haven't done anything substantial yet.  I'd like to be given some projects, and then ask the more experienced modelers how to get around whatever little snags come up.  I'm also interested in getting feedback and having fun and all that.
My ultimate life dream is to create cool movies (maybe even musicals) using 3d Studio (or perhaps Maya or Mirai).  Learning Max through cool projects is just a step toward that goal.
If you guys are in dire need for a coder, I'd be happy to contribute what I can, but I haven't done much graphics coding yet (though I plan to pretty soon).  At work, I'm the lead developer, and I'm kind of tired of being the one making all the decisions all the time.  So, I'd be happy to just be a small cog in a big machine and work on someone else's dream for a change.  :)
If there are no other "Mark"s in here, you can call me "Mark".  Also, "CowTongue" or "cowtung" or "Cow" works too.  :)

    • Allen Guest

      Allen Guest - 2002-04-02

My name is Allen Guest and I've been coding since I was 12 back in 1981 - used to write simple games on Vic20/Commodore64 (woohoo sprites! + BASIC/ASM). I moved to the PC back in 1984? when CGA was the hot commodity item.

While I was still a student going to University for my CS degree (circa 1989), I wrote a sprite engine for the PC in x86 ASM that did 2D primitives as well as page flipping and sprite animation/collision via the Timer(0x08) interrupt.

Since graduating, I moved onto real-time engineering and analysis applications using C, Pascal and Assembler (to a lesser extent). I migrated to Business applications doing IVR system development in C (love those state machines), subsequently moving to Client/Server systems in the mid-90's.

For the past 4 years I've been doing mostly Web development (Presentation via HTML/DHTML/Java/Client side javascript - Middle Tier - COM components in VB/C++(ATL) via DCOM and now COM+ - Database Tier using T-SQL (SQL Server) and PL/SQL (Oracle)).

For the last couple of months, delving into .NET and C#. Gotta tell you, I LOVE C# and it's easy coding for remoting and delegates. The transition to C# is fairly smooth since I know Java, but it will take some time to get the class hierarchies memorized.

On a personal note - I'm an avid gamer and spend what spare time I have getting in some game time with FPS and RPG's. My work and family keep me pretty busy so I could never hope to dedicate 2 years of my life writing a 'real' game, so I am hoping to make small contributions where I can to existing projects where I don't have to lead necessarily. Dungeon Siege ala Skrit, allows incredible access to the AI and animation logic without the logistics nightmare of actually implementing! This is a perfect venue to exercise some coding expertise without worrying about the minute details. I am anxiously awaiting for May with the SE tools come out and are available for the public.

      Jeremy Swart - 2002-04-04

I am currently studying Comp. Sci. at The COllege of Wooster, in Ohio.  I love Computer games, and love modding them especially.  I have been on numerous mods for Half-life, released so many maps for starcraft and warcraft/II taht it makes me sick thinking about it, and helped to wrok on some mods for DII as well.  I currently own DS, as I won the sweepstakes held for the preview version.  I can't think of anything else to say...

    • Brian Carter

      Brian Carter - 2002-04-04

Originally from the UK, 32 years old (yeah I know, getting old), now living in North Carolina. Graduate of a Masters degree in Information Systems and Technology, prior to that a normal Computer Science degree. To be honest the degrees mean jack shite, its the real world experience that matters.

Over 15 years commercial C++ experience, can program in more languages than really necessary to the point that new languages are just really a case of learning syntax than how to code it. I have worked for major financial institutions like Merril Lynch and Reuters developing key real time client server applications for the trading floors. I am now semi-retired working freelance for myself as and when I want to, so finding time to devote to this project is not really a problem.

I will most likely be best suited and the Software Development role with SKRIT. I have seen the few examples that are laying around the net and it will be fun to see what it can do.

In addition to programming I have an interest in 3D modelling and animation. I have access to Maya 4, 3DS-Max, Photoshop 6 and a host of other major applications. I pretty much dabble in these. I wouldnt classify myself as a graphic artist by a long shot but I have a great interest in 3D modelling and animation. I would like to try and get more experience and learn more about this aspect. So on a secondary role, would love to get involved on the lighter side of modelling to start with. Have have done the tutorials with GMAX.

Major goals on this project for me consist first and foremost to have fun. I have never made a MOD before mainly because there has never been a game that has grabbed me like DS has. Next, I want to produce something other people will enjoy and use,  that for me is an awesome feeling. Finally, just want to get some experience and learn how to create game models and animation.

Not working on any other projects right now, I have an idea for one in DS but would rather join an existing team than start my own right now.

I am interested in any project thats interesting, yeah I know .. narrow it down :) ... projects in keeping with the DS theme as it is, not interested in any type of sci-fi space cyberpunkish mods .. good ol' swords and scorcery for me. Projects with a talented group of people, groups that will be capable and have the enthusiasm to actually do what they talk about and produce results not leaving a project half completed. I think its more about the group of people than the project for me, just want to be with a good group of people that know how to communicate and enjoy what they do.

Let me know if I can be of help to ya'll.

      regards
      Brian Carter

      Well,

Ive been dealing with computers since i was round about 6, i have just loved anything and everything about them, the last 6 years i have been heavily doing prorgamming (vb, java, c, c++) i have also for the last 3 years been writing majority of the australian ultima online emulated shards (sphere, pol, uox) for the last 2 years i had been playing around for a hobby (learning expereince) writing my own game which was aiming way too high as i wanted everything in it, but i like hard challanges =)

as for what i would like to do in DS, well i am of course VERY interested in the skriting, and the SiegeFX particle system, i have been reading through all the documents i can find about them, and so far im bloody loving it!

I do 3d models, animations and gfx. Been doing digital art for about 4-5 years now.   Doing fine art ( off on and on ) since i was stuck in the hospital when i was 12, and got my first X-men comic.

I hate programming :)  However i definetly wanna learn enough so i can use Siege FX on my models.

    • Kurt Yungel

      Kurt Yungel - 2002-04-20

Well, I guess I'm another of the youngins.  I'm a CS student at Salisbury University, and interned for six weeks at NASA (woo!), and I'm going back there full-time this summer, as a lackey/programmer.  I'm the first to admit I don't have code-fu, but I'm decent enough at pounding away at the code until it works as designed.  (read: I'm not as good as you professionals, but I'm too bloody stubborn and love programming too much for my own good.)
However, my real passion is writing.  If you want to see a sample story, even if it's not in the genre we're designing here, look at:
      http://www.swl.net/clanwolfer/Goodbye.doc
If anyone needs a story fleshed out/rewritten/toyed with, PLEASE send it my way!  I love working on this stuff!
Also, I have a little in the way of acting skills (being inducted into the Thespian Society this week!), in case voice actors are ever needed.
I do not: Draw, sing, compose, model, texture, or design levels.  This isn't arrogance; it's a matter of talent, and lack thereof.

    • Scott Roberts

      Scott Roberts - 2002-04-23

My name is Scott Roberts, and I am a Technology Consultant (fancy title for a computer geek I suppose).  I have experience in a wide variety of subject areas from network design to programming.  I have experience in C, C++, Pascal, and VB as a hobbyist and occasionally in my professional career.  I enjoy playing computer games in what little spare time I can manage between work and family life, and I am looking forward to all of the possibilities that Dungeon Siege has to offer.

I am interested in Level design, perhaps some 3D modelling (no experience), and coding.  I have played RPG's for years, and have come up with campaigns, whole worlds, and individual scenarios for a variety of pen and paper RPG's as well as some computer-based equivalents.  I have worked on a variety of MUD's over the years, as a coder and as a creator/author of areas/mobs/objects.

I can't wait for the Siege Editor to come out so I can try to put my worlds into 3D.

      Timothy Jones - 2002-04-25

Name is Timothy Jones, and I am working on a computer science major at USF. I have been drawing freehand on and off for 15 years. I started when I was 8. I started messing with "computer art" about 4 years ago. However what really gets me going is a pen and empty sheet of paper.

I look forward to helping out 2d/3d with some of the groups wonderful ideas.

      Chris Stubbings - 2002-04-26

Well im one of what seems many who started playing around with computers at a young age and really loved it. I aint doing a uni degree as im in my last year in high school and planning to do architecture in uni. After that sentence I think you may have guessed what I'll do for any sieglet, design and create maps. I cant program with greatness but I plan to learn how very soon, and my only experience would be creating my own maps for the quake series on quark and using a hell of alot of different in game editors to create maps. Im from Australia so when you are up im dead asleep so dont expect an answer to any email for a minimum of 1 day, usually 2.

Thats probably all I can think of so Im going to stop writing, and Im the real youngun here
