Initial Comment:
You should be able to save a new, blank file using
"Save As...".  I think it's pretty common for users to
say something like "I want to create a new file named
'Foo.java'."  Currently, the fastest way to do it in
DrJava is to create a new file, make some trivial
modification to turn off the "unmodified" flag, then
save it with a filename.  The trivial modification step
should be unnecessary; you should just be able to make
a new file and save it with a name.

Programs I know of that already do this: MS Word,
Excel, pico, emacs, Appleworks, etc.  DrJava's current
"new files are unmodified" thing is pretty weird, all
things considered.
