I also have this entry in my modules.conf. But this entry does not the job.
Maybe you are loading the agpgart module explicitely during boot or you use
i810 which accesses the char device before drm loads the i810 module and so
the agpgart module ist automatically loaded before i810 module is loaded by 
drm?
