Daryll, Sorry for not having the original message quoted, but I can't seen to find it now :-) Anyway, I agree with the "Release early, release often" policy. I do, however, think it's important to keep the main branch as stable as possible, since it's the branch that ends up getting merged with the XFree86 code, and it's the branch that 3dfx uses to create it's rpms for users (and hopefully that other video card companies will be releasing as drivers for their cards). This is also the branch that your average user is going to download in order to get Quake3Arena and UT working on their system once they realize that their XFree86 4.* binary distribution doesn't include everything they need to get 3D working. :-) As such, I see some very distinct benefits to announcing these merges early enough to allow more users to pull the code ahead of time and test it out. This is just something to consider. Adam |
