Hi everyone, I have just installed RedHat 9 on my system. I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (128MB ram) and I'm suffering from severe lockups that appear to have something to do with the amount of geometry that is drawn in an OpenGL application. In my particular case I'm testing with Crystal Space. I get very good performance with little geometry in view (more than 200 fps). As soon as the amount of geometry goes up the performance goes down VERY sharply and soon the system will completey lock up (have to power down everything). When I was using RedHat 7.3 on the same system before I was using the drivers from ATI and I got no problems then (with the same version of Crystal Space and the same hardware). Unfortunatelly I can not use the drivers from ATI now as RedHad 9 comes with XFree 4.3 and ATI drivers only go up to XFree 4.2. I notice that there is already a FAQ entry about this problem at http://dri.sourceforge.net/faq/faq_display.phtml?id=49 But there didn't appear to be any solution in that faq entry. This is really a bad problem for me (is stopping me developing on Crystal Space) and I wonder if any progress is being made on fixing this bug. Is there anything I can do to help fix it perhaps? Also is there some forced command I could use to get me out of that locked situation so that I don't have to power down my system all the time. i.e. I thought about using a script like this: ./program & export PID=$! sleep 30 kill $PID So the program would be killed in 30 seconds after startup. Unfortunatelly this doesn't restore system operation. But perhaps there is something that I could do to force X to restart?
