Another point is that binary drivers like NVIDIA are x86 only, which is a problem for me (PPC) as Apple now bundles their cards with recent Mac G4s. Also, despite beeing pretty complete, the r128 driver is experiencing all sorts of lockups (depending on the chip rev. and using AGP or not) on PPC. I don't know if x86 has the same issue, but since there doesn't seem to be anybody working on it anymore with good knowledge of the r128 engine (and it's possible bugs)... >> Is open source absolutely essential?
