Hallo, Maybe I am the only one who encountered this problem but if there are other people seeking for a quick solution for these problems, here are the answers. I have a Compaq Evo N800c which has an ATI Radeon 7500. lspci lists the card as "ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LW". The first problem is having much trouble with video mode switching (i.E. switching between X and a text console or switching to different video modes within X. I encountered this problem with XFree 4.2 and 4.3 (Not tried current CVS). The solution was pretty simple: I was accidently using the "ati" driver and not the "radeon" driver. This isn't really DRI related, sorry. The second problem IS DRI related and it effects 4.2, 4.3 and also the current CVS version. After enabling the GLX extension in the XF86Config I was no longer able to switch off the display by closing the lid or control the screen brightness with Fn+F7 and Fn+F8. The solution: Switch AGPMode to 4. Using AGPMode 2 or AGPMode 1 will cause this problem. I don't know why but that's it. By the way, AGPMode 4 will also improve the graphics performance, so there seems to be no reason to use lower AGPModes. To enable AGPMode 4 just add this line to the device section of your XF86Config: Option "AGPMode" "4" I don't know if this also works in older XFree versions. I tried it with the current DRI-CVS and it works for me. I hope this will help others who have encountered the same problem with this Compaq Notebook. -- Bye, K <http://www.ailis.de/~k/> (FidoNet: 2:240/2188.18) [A735 47EC D87B 1F15 C1E9 53D3 AA03 6173 A723 E391] (Finger k...@ai... to get public key) |
