Hi, excuse me for asking this, as it has probably received an answer before, but I've been going at this task for hours now with no luck, and the documentation on the dri.sf.net page doesn't seem to help. I'm trying to set up DRI for my Radeon 7500. I run Debian (a mix of sid and sarge right now), and my XFree version is therefore 4.2.1-6. I installed the latest snapshot of the binaries (radeon-20030612-linux.i386.tar.bz2) and the Extras package, and could not start X afterwards; the problem, as far as I can see, lies in a version incompatibility The X error log states that it's been unable to load 4 modules (GLcore, dri, glx and radeon, in that order). The issue with GLcore has to do with the debug_xform.o object ("No symbols found in this module; Failed to load debug_xform.o"), but I seem to remember reading in some support list that X would not fail to start because of it (although glx is not loaded later because of the lack of a required submodule, which I believe is GLcore). But the radeon and dri modules are compiled for XFree86 4.3.0, and the system refuses to load them. I installed the XFree86 binary that comes in the extras package, but it didn't solve the issue. Is there anything I can do, or should I just download the X source and (gasp) compile it by myself? I'm sure I can do that, but I'd rather not mess with a delicate piece of software in a way that can disrupt my .deb-based system. TIA, Alon |
