Hello, As will soon become very obvious, I don't follow X/dri developments very closely. I am sorry, thefore, if my questions seem terminally dumb, but here goes. I am currently running X v.4.2 which I compiled last September for the linux from scratch installation I was then building. At the same time I compiled and installed the CVS version of dri. Everything has worked perfectly. I want upgrade to X v.4.3 and to install a radeon 9200 card (yet to be bought), in place of my present mga. I understand that this card is supported under dri. Looking to the current linux from scratch docs for guidance, it seems to me that things have changed, so that dri is now integral with X, and there is no need to install it separately. On the other hand, I note that it is still possible to download dri from its own cvs independently of X. I have, in fact, d/ld and compiled both X v.4.3 and dri/cvs just to prove that I can - but I have not installed either. I note that the dri compilation concludes with the announcement that I have compiled X v.4.3. I am confused. Can someone please explain what, if anything, is the difference between X v.4.3 and the cvs version of dri? Will both give me working drivers for the radeon 9200? Any other hints or tips? Geoff |
