Hello and welcome Hans. Unfortunately due to differences in the Pi image vs Orange Pi5 it isn’t compatible. I hoped to have an image for other arm SBCs by now, but unfortunately that’s not happened yet either.

Hello, support for orange pi 5 began with Linux kernel 6.7, and Linux kernel 6.9 has already been released, when will it be possible to run dragonos focal or dragonos pi64 on orange pi5, I've been waiting since last year, please help.

      Hello.

So it’s not really so much about kernel as it is about the specific processor being used. DragonOS FocalX is for x86_64. DragonOS Pi64 is using 22.04 built for and around Pi. To the best of my knowledge a Pi OS only boots and runs on the Pi (Broadcom).

A quick search again reminds me of this

“Ubuntu 22.04 is available for Orange Pi 3B, and you can download the image from the Ubuntu-rockchip project on GitHub.The project aims to provide a default Ubuntu 22.04 experience for Rockchip RK3588 devices.”

This means I would have to take and build a completely separate 22.04 build for the different chipset. Unfortunately I do not have an orange pi to do so.

If there was an orange pi created for use with x86_64 then DragonOS FocalX would likely boot and work.

Forgot to say, you mentioned Orange Pi5. My point is that I would have to start with an OS that boots on it. Neither the x86_64 or aarch64 build i use can do that.

thank you for your answer, you have a very interesting project and I’m interested in SDR, but the biggest problem is that besides gqrx I can’t install any software for SDR on orange pi 5, now many people choose orange pi 5 because of its power, efficiency, and amount of RAM and built-in M.2, this single-board computer is superior to most of its analogues, it is very popular now, but most SDR software is not adapted to it

I should probably order one. I’m actually curious if I used armbian or the Ubuntu that’s not strictly Pi compatible, how many different SBCs it’d work with.

yes sir, right now the combination of orange pi 5 and armbian is very popular, the operating system is very fast and light, I just installed it on orange pi 5 after many tips, and if now you create a new generation of dragonos on this basis, it will be fantastic, the range of users will be very expand, this will be a step towards a more modern and faster system

Nowadays, users of SDR technologies are interested in mobile computers with low power consumption and high efficiency, so x86-64 processors are losing popularity, everyone wants to have a mobile SDR kit that works quickly and at the same time uses up the battery efficiently. An SDR kit that can be carried is more convenient than a stationary one; now it is better to assemble an effective system based on a single-board computer in a plastic case than to carry around a laptop with a bunch of wires and devices.

This is very true, however, to do wide bandwidth and heavy DSP on host needs compute. For example, even on the pi5 it simply can’t handle doing more theb maybe 6 or so Msps with heavy DSP.

Also partly why I’m building and selling these,

      https://cemaxecuter.com/?product=wardragon-w-case

Which is x86 based, yet averages very low power consumption with the Intel n95/100 based processors.
