I miss the possibility to write

1. Nuclear reactions including the reaction arrow
2. Chemical reactions including the reaction arrow
3. Regular text including spaces (not italic)
4. 'Displaystyle' to size up expressions
5. Two boxes side by side with no math in between (this would be possible if chemical reactions were supported).

Best regards
Morten

Some of these features would go against the structure of DragMath, as it is designed to handle mathematics.
I would imagine it would actually require an extension and modification of DragMath, until it could be classed as a separate program, DragChem?

The main feature that would cause problems is two boxes side by side with no relationship between them.

    Abillingsley,

Though it is called DragMath I see no reason it shouldn't be an allround equation editor.

If one were to develope DragChem then this editor should not be able to handle "log(10^x)" as this is math(?).

As a physics teacher I use Mathtype and LaTeX intensely. No one told this me I was wrong.

Just posting hard needed features for this great application.

    Morten,

I assume you have read and posted in this forum, http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=78683

The difference between DragMath and MathType and LaTeX, is that DragMath focuses on mathematical content and meaning, where as the others focus purely on presentation. DragMath holds a tree of the expression created, with the relationship between each child node specified at the parent node.

To be able to write chemical forumla's with DragMath, it would require using a "dummy" relationship between nodes, which was invisible in the GUI, and blank when convertted to an output format.

This sounds like it could be possible, but I wouldn't be able to say without trying it.

I will leave this is a feature request for DragMath, however it does go against the whole structure of DragMath by implementing a "dummy" relationship.

    Abillingsley,

Yes, I see what you mean.

However a DragMath presentation tab would be a nice feature to have. It would make life so much easier if one could write both mathematical formulas and presentations in the same editor. Like s=1/2gt^2 = 1/2*9,82 m/s^2*(5 s)^2. The last part of this is not possible right now.

I took a glance at the source code and basically I see no problem in making a 'dummy' operator. "\dot" could just be a blank. And coding for nuclear symbols "{}_2^4 {\rm He}" would also not be impossible. (I tried making some changes using Borland Jbuilder, but haven't been able to make the compilation work without errors - maybe Netbeans is easier to set up...).

    Thanks,
    Morten

You wouldn't be able to convert an expression in a presentation tab to a different format, so it would be a bit useless.
