Hi Christian, > Hi Björn, > > I agree with you on all but two suggestions. The "Buddies" are not only "Saros Buddies". You can use your normal XMPP-Account (if you have had one before). Therefor the people listed there wouldn't be my "Saros Buddies". Unfortunately I don't have another name than "Buddies" but maybe someone can come up with something better. 1) No better wording has been found. If we used just "Buddies" it wouldn't be clear to the user that (a) this view is only responsible for Saros activities and (b) that this view is part of the Saros plugin. People with a heavily used Eclipse installation with lots of plugins could overlook the new "Buddies" tab. 2) Using "Buddies" would suggest that this view would offer non Saros activities. (a) As far as I know this is no planned. (b) Our "Buddies" view is not extensible by other Eclipse plugins because of two reasons: (i) Semantically it wouldn't make sense for the Saros team to offer a generic "Buddies" tab. Such a basic functionality should be provided by the ECF. (ii) Our Saros plugin isn't technically prepared for extension (we don't provide extension points and have no defined external API). 3) Consistent wording Although I can't validate it I think that a consistent wording scheme (Saros + Noun for views) compensates possible missunderstandings. 4) Patrick's new integrated Saros view will hopefully be introduced very soon. The many Saros views will be consolidated in one "Saros" view making the "(Saros) Buddies" question less important. > The other point where I disagree is the renaming of "Host". Some people are talking about the possibility of changing the Host role (if the original Host is leaving etc.) and in that case "Inviter" wouldn't be the appropriate name. Finding a better name for "Host" may require writing down all the tasks and privileges the "Host" has. 1) 4 out of 5 interviewees told me that they would prefer the term "inviter" instead of "host" 2) I already proposed to wipe out the term "host" completely if it was possible to assign the host dynamically. People at "Beiträge zum Software Engineering" doubted that we would be able to do so... (a) if it was *possible* ... ... the "host" concept would loose its meaning making it unnecessary to confront the end user with the terms "host" or "inviter". (b) it it was *not possible* ... ... host and inviter would always be the same. In that case I would prefer the interviewees' proposition (= inviter). > As I said I agree with the other renamings. > > > Christian > > 2011/1/19 Björn Kahlert <ma...@bk...> > Hi Saros Team, > > I'm working on the improvement of the first use experience of Saros. > > One of my results is the new wording for Saros concepts and terms. > > For the next Saros release I plan to rename as follows: > > - Roster = Saros Buddies > - Shared Project Session = Saros Session > - Chat = Saros Chat > - Host = Inviter > - Driver = no more wording > - Observer = read-only > > Some notes on the new Driver/Observer wording: > I want to replace the old Driver/Observer relict by a more understandable metaphor - right levels. > Because I also want to change the default configuration to "everyone is a driver with the beginning of the session" > there's no more need to term the full access level. > Only in case users want to explicitly limit other's rights, you can right click on a user and choose "Activate Read-Only" or "Limit To Read-Only". > > As soon as Patrick Bitterling checks his integrated Saros view in, > Saros Buddies, Saros Session and Saros Chat will be consolidated to the new Saros view and be labeled "Saros". > > Please tell me within one week (26th January) if you don't agree with my changes. > > Regards, > Björn > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Protect Your Site and Customers from Malware Attacks > Learn about various malware tactics and how to avoid them.
