Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hello everyone, Here is my suggestion. I would like to be able to set the styles (Backgrounds and such) or an individual cell. I can do this fine with Columns and even seperate (group) rows together and give diffirent background colors, but what would be nice is being able to change the entire cell when it is selected. -akshay |

Hi there, In addition to Tobin's suggestions, I have one more suggestion. -- Sorting Data: On click of each cell, a dropdown list box should appear with distinct values of that row. On selection of any perticular value, Data in Grid should be sorted and refreshed. SriRama --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Free online calendar with sync to Outlook(TM). |

Hi there, Just thought I'd write a quick message to introduce myself to the team. Before I go into it, sorry about all the test messages! For some reason my posts weren't showing up - must be a delay in them being processed - anyone know typically how long this delay is? About me ======= Well, I'm 27 years old and working as a web/applications developer in Leeds, UK. I saw this project and thought it was a good idea, and definately a useful one. I actually started the SqlBuddy project (here on SourceForge), which is an IDE for SqlServer (and hopefully other databases one day), and is written in c#. So, one reason I liked the idea of this project is that I could use a better grid in SqlBuddy! I've been working in dotnet only since September 02, and developing software for about 3 years commercially. Project Suggestions ============ As requested, I've thought of a few things I'd like to see DotGrid do. I'm sure I'll think of more though! - Binding to IDataReader: It would be nice if the grid could be bound to a datareader (I think!) - Binding to DataSet (obviously!) - Row Resizing: it would be nice if row depth could be resized en masse, rather than individually. So changing the depth of one row would reseize the others also. - Column Resizing: it would be cool if columns could have built in width-sizing strategies. For example, for large text fields the width would be set nice n' wide (but not wider than the screen). - Export strategies: it could be useful to be able to plug in a standard set of data exporters, such as an XML exporter, a HTML exporter, CSV, a Fixed ASCII exporter etc. This could be a common interface to allow further exporters to be written. - Property Grid Mode: This would pivot the data like this: Id: 1 Name: Jo Bloggs Address: blah So you have record one per page. You could switch views at runtime, so you could work with the data in different ways. Justing thinking on the fly here! Case Tool ====== Valerio mentioned that we're looking for a case tool for the project. I imagine we'll want to use a free one, and the following come to mind. - ArgoUML: this gets good reviews, although I've not used it on a project - Psoiden UML (?) - based on Argo, but a company is funding it. They do still maintain a free communitity edition. Again, I've not used it. - Objecteering: These guys do a personal edition, which I've used and I like. - There's others too, some which are really just scratch-pads for UML. I like these for lightweights stuff. I suppose it depends what we need to do with the tool. More specifically: - Lightweight Documentation? - Code Generation? - Version Control Diagrams? Ok, that's enough of my rant. Cheers Tobin _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with absent friends - get MSN Messenger http://www.msn.co.uk/messenger |

I think it's my task to answer to this mail. The first thing I would like from all of you involved in this project is a list of features and ideas you would like to have in the component. You can go as detailed as you want without any limit. This should be the base of discussion. I am still waiting to post my features list since I would like t have more brains on board before doing that. The mailing list is the main communication medium. I have always found it the easier to follow and the one with the best chances to have important messages delivered reliably to everyone. I won't mind setting up a forum or haveing IRC meetings.. we can add them as we feel them necessary. The first layer of documentation is going to be a generic one. Only a features list with some milestones for each group of features. Then we're going to analyze and design each element making up the components. I am used at Visio and I've had some experience with Rational Rose and TogetherSoft. Someone once told me about an Open Source UML software that should be on SourceForge.. we could have a look at that, too. -- Valerio Santinelli |

This is my first SourceForge project. I was wondering if you guys could explain to me what exactly I am supposed to do. Am I helping with design, or am I just coding? Do we only communicate trough the mailing list, or are there other places I should check for news/updates? Also how in depth do we get laying out the project and the documentation of the project? Do you use state diagrams and object models? If so do you use Visio? =20 Thanks |
