Longtime keyboard issue related to bug 384 and partially addressed in DOSBox Wiki FAQ 2.2, but still fundamentally incompatible with DOSBox should be fully addressed.
In ticket 384 the user outlines several keys that conflict with a 109 key keyboard such as ones that might be seen on an alternate character keyboard like a Japanese 109 key keyboard.
Microsoft eHome IR receivers used on mostly on media center receivers use a driver still supported in Windows 11 that can be found in Device Manager->HID->Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver.
This driver auto-installs the following keyboard drivers as part of its IR remote control software:
Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard
Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard
Microsoft eHome Remote Control Keyboard keys
The MCIR 109 Keyboard is incompatible with DOSBox due to its similarity to how other 109 key keyboards provide input (the issue in ticket 384). It's something of an edge case, but isn't uncommon in home theater PCs that use IR remote controls like Logitech's Harmony 650 (my case), the Harmony Elite, or other universal remotes that control HTPCs. Most any IR receiver will have this HID device installed. In my case, this means that I would have to choose between DOSBox and the remote functionality of the HTPC, which I do use for gaming.
I'm not totally clear about the internal operation of DOSBox to understand whether it could be made to function with a layout compatible with such a 109 key device. Given that Windows itself seems to read all keyboard input normally, could this be a part of DOSBox as well?
