DosBox does not work on a new computer I bought in the following ways:

  • The =, [, ' keys are dead
  • The ] key sends a [ and the \ key a ]
  • Consequently, I cannot type a backslash and thus cannot mount anything :(

I already tried deleting, re-downloading and reinstalling DosBox, but same thing still happens.

More information: (is there no way to edit the original bugreport?)

    • Using Windows 7 Professional
    • Already tried reinstalling DosBox
    • The keys are fine in all other applications

Did you try the things mentioned in the manual/Readme ?

Yes, although none of them attempt to solve the problem (but only provide unworkable workarounds), except for one — “change the usescancodes entry” — I tried that, it has no effect.

The next section in the FAQ suggests to use “set sdl_videodriver=windib”. I tried that, and it does fix the keyboard problem, but it causes new video problems, so it’s not an option. All games run very laggy with that.

You might have that weird keyboard driver on your PC. (japanese keys)

No, I don’t. I’ve updated all drivers to the newest versions, and the keyboard I’m using is a standard USB keyboard.

    Here is some more information:

    • The computer I’m using is a new laptop I bought. I am using the exact same operating system (Windows 7 Professional), installed from the exact same DVD as the one on my previous laptop.
    • The previous laptop didn’t exhibit this problem.
    • The configuration files on both laptops are identical.

I have the same problem as Timwi.

I use / instead and move directory to somewhere not locked in windoze account.

I don't know if that helps but it worked for me.
