I was pondering installing this on a box which I would not like to/cannot install the glib libraries on.  What is the purpose of glib on a non-gtk host? especially one that you would like to run as a dedicated (yes, I'm addicted and so are my friends) dopewars server?

GLib provides many useful functions to the C programmer. It is true that GLib was developed in conjunction with GTK+, but it is now used in other projects as well. dopewars uses GLib for its lexical scanner (for parsing the configuration files) and for its dynamic string handling (one of the more common ways of avoiding the majority of buffer overflow exploits). Install GLib if you can (it's not like it's very big) or use an older version dopewars server (but be prepared to get hacked, 'cos there are a couple of publicly-available buffer overflow exploits for them).
