Hello, Just downloaded and installed llxdoom, I have tried connecting to
servers - they are actually running, and all that happens is the window just hangs. I have tried software mode, which the window hangs, but I can close it, and GLMode where the window actually locks the full system, requiring a reboot, well the system is not fully locked, cause ctl-alt-sysrq-s-u-b works, and unmounts/reboots my computer safely. Any how, Glide and Mesa-Glide are installed properly, running version 1.29P7, I set my GLX env var, set my path, then run something like the following...
Ive sucessfully used TCP/IP Network support without any problems
accept mabye that dammned file time checking wich seems to hang the servers computer when its on
Sorta skippy and Obituarys only appear to the owner of them
basicly if I got shot by a zombie Only I would see it
But otherwise quite good
do it like this
Computers = 1
No file time checking
And launch
you will jump into game
and then have other player(s) connect to you

Alright, got your plea for help but I am afraid that I cannot be of good service on this one. I installed Legacy Doom and got it to work just fine, with full sound and GL graphics but I have never tried to play multi with it. Single player works just fine but Doom has never really been a good multiplayer game unless one were connected to an IPX network, then it works really well. TCP multi with Doom has always sucked a big pink one. Slow as hell when you actually do get it to work. Well, I take that back. I did get it to work quite well with the original Doom in DOS, using a modem to connect with one other player on the phone. (What a b*tch that was to get to work!)
I did have great sucess with QuakeForge though using a local LAN connection. Other player was playing GLQuake in Windows and I was in linux with QuakeForge. Really kicked ass, the graphics were out of this world and played the whole game plus the two expansion packs with it. I used TCP to play multiplayer QuakeForge on a LAN but I see no reason why TCP on the internet would not kick ass if you are configured correctly and have a decent internet connection.
I have Windows XP Professional installed now and am so tickled pink with it that I haven't booted to Red Hat 7.1 in quite some time now but the original stuff is still there. Want to take my work computer home and make it a linux server, gateway, firewall, and game box. Will be doing this soon and will have more good stuff to report.
Wish I had better news for you but if you haven't checked out QuakeForge yet, what the heck are you waiting for, it rocks! You need the original Quake pak files to play QuakeForge or at least the free demo from idsoftware. Go have a look: http://www.quakeforge.net/

./llxdoom -opengl -grabmousr -mvert -connect server.i.p.here
and it just hangs, boomd locked. :) On a lighter note, this looks great in Single player GL.
hum.. how did you launch the server?
The server was a win client, I am not sure.
