I have submitted a number of patches for 1.43 beta that fix a number of problems related to Doom1, Heretic and FreeDoom. One is a fix to the memory allocation routine that could be causing other bugs.
There is no sign that anyone has noticed the patches, nor that they will be incorporatated in any release soon, so download and apply them yourself. Many are encased in #ifdef so they can be enabled or disabled.
