windows xp sp3 using opengl legacy win32 beta 1 : starting legacy with a .wad, .deh, etc, using a commandline shortcut, repeatedly presents no problem. however, with same setup commandline, .. before you either load a previous game, or start a new game, go to console and type in "addfile" bla.wad. legacy gives message bla.wad accepted. if that wad contained, for example level 3, either idclev or via console map map03. when level 3 begins the sound is distorted. it is especially easy to hear when using the chainsaw, but other sounds distort too. I have tried this numerous times, using the "addfile" and not using the "addfile". . it always causes distortion when using "addfile". this behavior did not occur using legacy win32 alpha 4.
I have heard noises from the sound when loading files for some time now. I always assumed that it was the cheap sound hardware picking up noise from the hard drive or through the power supply. The other possibility is that the sound is getting sound buffers late because of the heavy drive accesses.
these particular "distortion sounds" are like a "continuous warped record playing", or a battery tape player, warping the sound when batteries are dying. It's definitely not sound from the hard drive/ or power supply. That would be a new/different sound. these distortions are of the original sound be it sound from player checking wall for a hidden door, chainsaw cutting, etc. It's very strange in that using the same doom2 wad alone, with the command line startup including xyz.wad for say, map 1 replacement,it runs fine.no distortion. but start doom2 alone, and exclude xyz.wad from the commandline, and instead, after starting doom2,go to console and "addfile" xyz.wad.. you get the distortion. Nothing appears as an error message, either in the console or stderr.txt.
I cannot duplicate this.
Is this still happening with the latest version, and if so, please give me an explicit example of which file you are loading using addfile.
Is this on Win32 SDL, or Win32 Native.
