David -- I've been playing around with Docutils' HTML output and
default.css, and I think it's possible to tighten up treatment of inline
literal text a bit. In particular, this:
<tt class="literal"><span class="pre">...</span></tt>
can be rendered as
<tt class="literal">...</tt>
if you just add this:
tt.literal {
white-space: nowrap
}
to default.css.
At least that works with Opera 6.01. It appears to be unnecessary with
Konqueror (2.2.2), which does not appear to wrap <tt> text in any
event. And... Mozilla appears not to wrap <tt> either. Guess someone
just needs to test with IE.
