The code is all open & free (gratis & libre).  Patches are gratefully
accepted!

I don't know TeX well, so can't address these issues.  Engelbert Gruber
(main author of the LaTeX writer) wasn't subscribed to this list, so I
forwarded your messages.  Best to also submit a bug report on SF so it won't
be forgotten.

Give the code in sandbox/oliverr/docbook a try.  Once it's in good shape
(that may already be true, I don't know), it can be added to the core.
