Hello, I found this page from a link that was posted in my thred from macOsXhints.com

Anyway, I think its a great idea to mod the dock. While I dont have any skills in coding (sometimes I can change existing codes, but I can't go from scratch) I do have some ideas:

    1) The dock puts too much priority in easy access to programs, the realistate of the dock should be used for programs that are open. I hate to say it, but I would be happy with the windows taskbar being ported over to OSX. It does everything in a very efficient way. 60%-90% is for open windows, and it can be edited to have quick launch icons for programs just like os x. but osX needs the ability to navigate between open windows through buttons on the bar.

    2) The dock needs to be its own area on the desktop, or at least an option to make it a permanent member of the desktop area. Currently, an open window will go "behind" the dock. While this is fine if you like to have the dock hide... those of us who like to have the dock always visible can get irritated when it covers important things (like the scroll down button in a browser) So, make the dock take up permanent space, and dont let windows go "behind" it.

    3) tone down the graphics. I like the idea of making it have only text, because right now, the Dock seems to be needlessly complicated with animation and bubbly graphics. While I enjoy the look, I dont know if I want my machine putting too much energy to run the goofy graphics.

anyway, as you can probably tell, im a PC guy. I just bought a mac g4 titanium powerbook (which is really cool) but the dock still needs improving. Mac gets an A for using UNIX and making 3 button support for the mouse.... but the dock is still lagging behind windows.

      hey scopa

first thnx for the first message in the dockmod project forum *biggrin*
i just want to give you a short answer on your first point:

i first thought the same way, that this was some sort of nonesense. but then i discovered, that this is part of apple's philosophy, and the way their os works. in contrary to windows, it does not really bother os x wether there are a lot of open applications or not - they usually consume very few cpu and memory. so you actually do _not_ have to _care_ wether an application is opened or not.
and therefore, the app icon is displayed all the time at the same place, if it is open or not, and you access it when you need it the same way as usual.

this does of course only make sense for apps you use often an therefore keep in your dock.

looking forward for more interesting discussions, greetz,
