[DJPlay-devel] configure: error: dlopen() is needed for compiling djplay

Hi list

I've been trying to build djplay on a fresh ubuntu 10.10 amd64 install 
and get the following abort at ./configure

...
checking for dlopen... no
checking for dlopen in -ldl... no
configure: error: dlopen() is needed for compiling djplay
...

I tried ldconfig, rebooting, reinstalling glibc, other packages 
involving dlopen with no change. Any ideas on what I could do to make 
this work?
