I'm using Spyder 4 Pro. The "Measure ambient light" button works only rarely. In most cases I get the "Please wait" dialog and nothing is going on for tens of minutes. On the console I can see:

Place instrument on spot to be measured,
and hit [A-Z] to read white and setup FWA compensation (keyed to letter)
[a-z] to read and make FWA compensated reading from keyed reference
'r' to set reference, 's' to save spectrum,
'f' to report cal. refresh rate, 'F' to measure refresh rate
'h' to toggle high res., 'k' to do a calibration
dispcalGUI: Waiting for send buffer

Rarely the measurement works (about twice within two days), but in most of the cases it ends up waiting for ever.

Using dispcalGUI 2.1.0.0 on Kubuntu 14.04 64-bit

Instruments with monochrome ambient sensors (like the Spyder 3 and 4 Pro/Elite) currently cannot be used to measure ambient with dispcalGUI stable. Please try the latest development snapshot.

Are you sure its monochrome? using the spyder4pro software recommends setting the whitepoint to 5800k... after using the ambient sensor?

Which version of Argyll CMS are you using?
