Look into the possibility to make unique names for event devices created with the use of HID_QUIRK_MULTIINPUT. This would make it easier for the users and applications such as GIMP to identify them.

This could be implemented by adding a name field to the corresponding device structure and having it initialized to the USB device name, possibly with the report ID appended, in the generic driver. After that a specific HID driver would be able to override it with a more meaningful name.
