I updated from 2.1 to 3.0 and I keep getting "unkown host" errors. This is an example of output from version 2.1:
    Starting DNS Service..

    Forwarding DNS Servers: 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2
    IP Range: 10.0.5.1 - 10.0.5.254
    DNS Service Allowed Hosts:
    10.0.5.1 - 10.0.5.254
    10.0.0.1 - 10.255.255.254
    Server Name: xp-bochs
    Local Zone: bochss (authorized)
Static Interface in IP Range Network: 10.0.5.49/255.255.240.0
    Max Lease Time/Expiry: 36000 (sec)
    Listening On: 0.0.0.0

    Accepting requests..
www.eurosport.com resolved from Forwarding server as site.eurosport.com
www.eurosport.com resolved from Forwarding server as 212.23.181.1

while this is from version 3.0:
    Forwarding DNS Servers: 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2
    IP Range: 10.0.5.1 - 10.0.5.254
    DNS Service Permitted Hosts:
    10.0.5.1 - 10.0.5.254
    10.0.0.1 - 10.255.255.254
    Server Name: xp-bochs
    Local Zone: bochss (authorized)
Static Interface in IP Range Network: 10.0.5.49/255.255.240.0
    Max Lease Time/Expiry: 36000 (sec)
    Listening On: 0.0.0.0

    Accepting requests..
    www.eurosport.com Forwarded to DNS 4.2.2.1
www.eurosport.com resolved from Forwarding server as site.eurosport.com
www.eurosport.com resolved from Cache to site.eurosport.com
www.eurosport.com resolved from Cache to site.eurosport.com
www.eurosport.com resolved from Cache to site.eurosport.com

and then I get an error page.

I re-did the DualServer.ini from the provided one upon reinstall (I actually did an uninstall of 2.1 and a clean install of 3.0), but with version 2.1 it works great, and with 3.0 doesn't work at all. Suggestions?

The application you are using surprisingly sends even the protocol name http:// to dns server. The DNS query should be www.eurosport.com rather than http://www.eurosport.com. Your DNS Server 4.2.2.1 surprisingly even accepts it and returns CNAME records only. I have no way to varify this as all forwarding DNS Server, I have access to, reject such query. Let know what application you are using. Thanks

I suppose you mean "he DNS query should be www.eurosport.com rather than http://www.eurosport.com"

The app used for the logs above is Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.6. The NS used are public, with IPs 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2.

The system I tried this on is the system running DualServer itself (ip 10.0.5.49).

The way I see it, there's a script of sf.net that automagically adds http:// in front of every www. in our posts. I'll repost the logs asap. (Sorry for all the spamming)

I've also had the same problem.
When the dualserver's DNS returns a hostname instead of an IP to a windows version of firefox, it doesn't acknowledge it. However, the Linux version of firefox (or maybe Linux in general) seems to send out another request to resolve the new hostname.
It would be nice if there was a check in the dualserver's code to ensure only IPs get returned.

We may be getting record type of CNAME from forwarding DNS Server, which is real hostname for an Alias. This should be accompanied by a record type A, which is IP. Let me look into this.

Don't mean to pressure you, but when will this be fixed?

      Hey Theodor Ciobanu,

I did try to reproduce the error you get, I never get it. This is what i see:
      Starting DNS Service..
      Starting DHCP Service..

      Forwarding DNS Servers: 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2
      DHCP Range: 67.162.198.45 - 67.162.198.254
      Default Gateways: 67.162.196.1
      DNS Service Permitted Hosts:
      67.162.198.45 - 67.162.198.254
      Server Name: knoppix
      Local Zone: workgroup (authorized)
Interface within DHCP Range Network: 67.162.198.45/255.255.252.0
      Max Lease Time/Expiry: 36000 (sec)
      Listening On: 0.0.0.0

      Accepting requests..
      www.eurosport.com Forwarded to DNS 4.2.2.1
www.eurosport.com resolved from Forwarding server as 212.23.181.1

      while on client I see

      knoppix@ttyp1[knoppix]$ host www.eurosport.com
www.eurosport.com is an alias for site.eurosport.com.
      site.eurosport.com has address 212.23.181.1

I see samething on windows too. I use the dns servers you use. I surprises me. Are you sure you still get this error ?

      Please write back.

      Thanks
      Achal

This is with version 3.1 as DNS server and Firefox 1.5.0.7:

      Starting DNS Service..

      Forwarding DNS Servers: 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2
      DNS Service Permitted Hosts:
      192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254
      192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254
      Server Name: xp-bochs
      Local Zone: bochss (authorized)
Static Interface in IP Range Network: none found
      Max Lease Time/Expiry: 36000 (sec)
      Listening On: 0.0.0.0

      Accepting requests..
      www.google.com Forwarded to DNS 4.2.2.1
www.google.com resolved from Forwarding server as www.l.google.com
www.google.com resolved from Cache to www.l.google.com
      www.eurosport.com Forwarded to DNS 4.2.2.1
www.eurosport.com resolved from Forwarding server as site.eurosport.com
www.eurosport.com resolved from Cache to site.eurosport.com

Internet Explorer seems to not work as well. What I've also noticed different in v3.1 is this line:
"Static Interface in IP Range Network: none found" which in v3.0 and v2.1 was
"Static Interface in IP Range Network: 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0"
am I maybe not configuring the server correctly, and while it didn't seem to bother the older version, the new one works correctly and breaks? The modiffications to the default DualServer.ini that I made are:
      - [SERVICES] uncommented just DNS
      - [DNS-ALLOWED-HOSTS] added 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.254
      - [DOMAIN-NAME] bochss=a
      - [DNS-SERVERS] uncommented 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2
      - [ROUTERS] added 192.168.1.1 (my gateway)
and that's about it. More about network settings:
My IP address (on which I tried the DualServer) is 192.168.1.2, my gateway is 192.168.1.1, which for the moment is a router with DHCP enabled, ranges 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.254 (even so, I have a static IP) and DNS set as 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2

The only chance is your DualServer.exe may be corrupt. Can you please re-download. Configuration should not matter as far as server is forwarding the request to external servers. Things like Static Interface in IP Range only matters for DHCP Service, which you are not using. Even version 2.1 should not say http://www.eurosport.com resolved from Forwarding server as site.eurosport.com It should be only IP. Can send me your DualServer.exe after zipping to achaldhir@gmail.com. I want to go to root of this problem, please bear with me. Thanks.
