compiled DFM ok, it runs, but as soon as i hover over an icon, it crashes...

hmmm, that seems to be a qtcurve error, are you using qtcurve by any chance? try w/ another style and holla back.
sweet that fixed it, but why not qtcurve?

I'd have to look at the qtcurve code to tell you that, I spose I could try some trivial workarounds and see if I can workaround the qtcurve bug.

for my usage, would be cool if we get could a plugin for dolphin to emulate

ye no worries, dolphin doesnt support plugins,,, I however might write a new file manager this fall that uses more kde libs and supports more plugins, but thats how I feel now, might feel differently this fall :D
