You haven't installed the SNMP_Session perl module, which is a requirement. Did you read the INSTALLATION file, shipped in the docs directory of the archive (it does mention installation of SNMP_Session and provides a URL for it) ? IMHO, the webpage you reference above is unnecessary, I think the INSTALLATION documentation covers this topic more comprehensively (I could add snmp troubleshooting, but I thought that was obvious ...). The Cisco SLB (Server Load Balancer) MIB does something similar: SNMPv2- SMI::enterprises.9.9.161.1.3.1.1.4.9.6.90.45.72.84.84.80.192.168.16.230.80 = INTEGER: 2 SNMPv2- SMI::enterprises.9.9.161.1.3.1.1.4.9.6.90.45.72.84.84.80.192.168.16.231.80 = INTEGER: 2 SNMPv2- SMI::enterprises.9.9.161.1.3.1.1.4.9.6.90.45.72.84.84.80.192.168.16.232.80 = INTEGER: 2 SNMPv2- SMI::enterprises.9.9.161.1.3.1.1.4.9.6.90.45.72.84.84.80.192.168.16.233.80 = INTEGER: 2 SNMPv2- SMI::enterprises.9.9.161.1.3.1.1.4.9.10.76.68.65.80.70.82.77.46.84.73.192.168.106.77.389 = INTEGER: 2 SNMPv2- SMI::enterprises.9.9.161.1.3.1.1.4.9.10.76.68.65.80.70.82.77.46.84.73.192.168.106.78.389 = INTEGER: 2 SNMPv2- SMI::enterprises.9.9.161.1.3.1.1.4.9.10.76.68.65.80.70.82.77.46.84.73.192.168.106.80.389 = INTEGER: 2 SNMPv2- SMI::enterprises.9.9.161.1.3.1.1.4.9.10.76.68.65.80.70.82.77.46.84.73.192.168.106.81.389 = INTEGER: 2 In this case the last five numbers are the IP and port number of a real server. I was planning on adding an operator to extract values out of the oid, maybe something like: ipport: OIDREGSUB : {real} /(\d+)\.(\d+)\.(\d+)\.(\d+)\.(\d+)$/$1.$2.$3.$4:$5/ Which, in the first case you hopefully give us something like 192.168.16.230:80 In your case, it could be used as follows: oids: used: 1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.100.101.1.2.2.3.1.4.0.2.2.10 : branch transforms: poolname: OIDREGSUB : {used} /(\d+)\.(\d+)\.(\d+)\.(\d+)$/$4.$3.$2.$1/ which would hopefully give us 10.2.2.0. Something like this should be feasible, and I wiill trry and get it working to the point where it works for the Cisco SLB MIB. It might not do all you need, but may be enough to get a start. Hi All, So I have a new DHCP appliance (BlueCat Adonis) in the environment and I want to have devmon pull the DHCP info about each scope and display and alert on it. The problem I see is that normally a branch OID has the last digit incrementally increase but in this case, the OID has a the incrementing digital AND the subnet in reverse after it. Is there a way that I can use devmon to monitor this? Here is an example for the 10.2.2.0 pool. You will notice that at the end of each OID there is "0.2.2.10", which is the backwards of 10.2.2.0 and the digit prior is the incrementing or branching digit (1,2,3,4,5,6). Can devmon handle this? Name OID Value ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pool .1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.100.101.1.2.2.3.1.1.0.2.2.10 10.2.2.0 Start IP .1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.100.101.1.2.2.3.1.2.0.2.2.10 10.2.2.191 End IP .1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.100.101.1.2.2.3.1.3.0.2.2.10 10.2.3.253 Total IPs .1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.100.101.1.2.2.3.1.4.0.2.2.10 319 Used IPs .1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.100.101.1.2.2.3.1.5.0.2.2.10 73 Alert Condition .1.3.6.1.4.1.13315.100.101.1.2.2.3.1.6.0.2.2.10 0 There are hundreds of OID's like this, all ending with the reverse of the pool network at the end. You can either grab the new do_devmon.c, and run 'make' again, and copy the hobbitd_rrd over the previous binary, or you can grab the new complete patch for a build from scratch: http://devmon.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/devmon?view=rev&revision=90 (at present, viewvc seems to be a bit bust on sourceforge, but these should be the URLs to the current versions of the files when it is working: http://devmon.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/devmon/trunk/extras/do_devmon.c http://devmon.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/devmon/trunk/extras/hobbit-4.2.0- devmon-complete.patch ) I will update my Hobbit packages with this once I've upgraded my production Hobbit box (but the SRPM is in Mandriva cooker already). Hi Buchan, I'm looking at creating a weathermap of our data centre and want to include information from our devmon polled temperature / humidity sensors. Is it possible to include another option or change the existing option so that you can specify the devmon test name and alias and retrieve a single value. Something along the lines of the following syntax and conf entries "TARGET $devmontest $devmonalias" NODE APC-EMS1 LABEL APC-EMS1 POSITION 200 200 TARGET env temperature Thanks Craig ##################################################################################### Disclaimer: The information in this electronic mail message is confidential and may be legally privileged. It's not really a string (on the wire). snmpwalk is converting it to a string for you for display (similar to the way a hex viewer does ...). Take a look at the compaq-server/log test. For example: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.232.6.2.11.3.1.6.0 = Hex-STRING: 07 D8 04 1E 00 1C $ grep 232.6.2.11.3.1.6 /usr/share/devmon/templates/compaq-server/log/oids cpqHeEventLogInitialTime: 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.6.2.11.3.1.6 : branch $ grep ^cpqHeEventLogInitial /usr/share/devmon/templates/compaq- server/log/transforms cpqHeEventLogInitialTimeTxt: UNPACK : {cpqHeEventLogInitialTime} H12 cpqHeEventLogInitialYHex: SUBSTR : {cpqHeEventLogInitialTimeTxt} 0 4 cpqHeEventLogInitialMHex: SUBSTR : {cpqHeEventLogInitialTimeTxt} 4 2 cpqHeEventLogInitialDHex: SUBSTR : {cpqHeEventLogInitialTimeTxt} 6 2 cpqHeEventLogInitialHHex: SUBSTR : {cpqHeEventLogInitialTimeTxt} 8 2 cpqHeEventLogInitialmHex: SUBSTR : {cpqHeEventLogInitialTimeTxt} 10 2 cpqHeEventLogInitialY: CONVERT : {cpqHeEventLogInitialYHex} hex cpqHeEventLogInitialM: CONVERT : {cpqHeEventLogInitialMHex} hex cpqHeEventLogInitialD: CONVERT : {cpqHeEventLogInitialDHex} hex cpqHeEventLogInitialH: CONVERT : {cpqHeEventLogInitialHHex} hex cpqHeEventLogInitialm: CONVERT : {cpqHeEventLogInitialmHex} hex In your case, since you don't want to convert the Hex values, an unpack should be sufficient: > .1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.7.2.1.13.1 = Hex-STRING: 20 00 00 05 1E 35 63 DF So, try: bar: UNPACK : {foo} H16 Then bar should contain the string 200000051E3563DF Regards, Buchan |

The problem is I don't want to convert or unpack the string. It seems to work correctly here. I tested with: DEVMON:thresh(cpu;CPUTotal5Min;y:60;r:90,if_load;ifInLoad;y:100;r:101,if_load;ifOutLoad;y:100;r:101) And the correct load thresholds showed on the if_load test: Interface error rates: Input load: yellow=100%, red=101% Output load: yellow=100%, red=101% whereas without it it shows: Interface error rates: Input load: yellow=75%, red=95% Output load: yellow=100if_load;ifInLoad;r:101;y:100%, red=101% I will wait until tomorrow to see if the thresholds are actually applied correctly. Also, would you mind filing a bug on the sourceforge tracker. It will allow me to organise my work on devmon better (and allow discussion of fixes etc. in a more organised fashion). Regards, Buchan |

I can't think of anything else that would be wrong, but I'll think about it some more. Regards, Buchan |

Hi Buchan, This is great, I have it up and working but only if I run the script manually, It won't run from hobbitlaunch. I took your entries from weathermap.cfg and added to hobbitlaunch.cfg as below but the hobbit environment variables don't seem to be passed to the perl script so it fails to run. [weathermap] ENVFILE /home/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg CMD $BBHOME/ext/weathermap.pl --image-uri=weathermap.png LOGFILE $BBSERVERLOGS/bb-weathermap-wan.log INTERVAL 1m I then reread the install notes and noticed the following that I had over looked the following, I assume this is why the environment variables are not getting passed. the weathermap.cfg file to a directory referenced by hobbitlaunch.cfg (e.g. $BBHOME/etc/hobbitlaunch.d/) Can you expand on the weathermap.cfg and hobbitlaunch.cfg configuration. Thanks Craig -----Original Message----- From: Buchan Milne [mailto:bg...@st...] Sent: Friday, 10 October 2008 2:46 a.m. To: dev...@li... Subject: [Devmon] Initial weather map implementation I have been hacking on the perl versions of weathermap that I found, and have hacked one up that works with Hobbit and devmon (for now, only devices using the if_load test). The interface load and descriptions are taken from the if_load test (retrieve from Hobbit via hobbitdlog), and the map is created using a configuration file (mostly the same format as that used by the other implementations). The difference is that a lot less information needs to be included in the weathermap configuration (the INFOURL, OVERLIBGRAPH, TARGET, BANDWIDTH), as they are unnecessary for Devmon/Hobbit. However, the node names need to match the hostname used in bb-hosts, and the interfaces need to be specified with the INTERFACES tag. E.g., this is sufficient to get two nodes and a link between them, with popup graphs of the interface (on the arrows) and load (on the nodes). NODE tau LABEL TAU POSITION 86 524 NODE upsilon LABEL UPSILON POSITION 421 524 LINK tau-upsilon NODES tau upsilon INTERFACES Gi1/1 Gi1/1 A tarball is available at: http://staff.telkomsa.net/~bgmilne/devmon- weathermap-1.1.2.tar.gz for now. I think sufficient instructions are available, but I would love to hear what other people think ...
