Whoops! My bad... during my various hacks I'd set the tests= option in bb-hosts to just the ones I which were previously working! I've removed the fans and power tests from the cisco-3020 template directory (supplied by the C7000 chassis so not relevant for the switch) and everything else is tickety-boo. Sorry for the noise. Easure. After dinner they took in a moving picture show. The first film was a Western melodrama and it pleased them both immensely. "I'd be afraid to live in a country where guns popped like they do in moving picture land," Curly drawled. "Where is it anyhow? It ain't Texas, nor Oklahoma, nor Wyoming, nor Montana, nor any of the spots in between, because I've been in all of them." Maloney laughed. "Day before yesterday that's the way I'd a-talked my own self, but now I know better. What about your little stunt? Wasn't that warm enough for you? Didn't guns pop enough? Don't you talk about moving pictures!" After the picture show there were other things. But both of them trod the narrow path, Maloney because he was used to doing so |

In my opinion, it makes sense to split these tests, for example a number of other templates have separate "temp" tests, and since they are relatively consistent, allow graphing of temperatures on a number of devices. It also allows you to separate alerts (on the xymon/hobbit side) for different aspects (rather than acknowledging a high temperature, only to miss a failed tray later ...). I think the following should really be done with this template: netapptemp renamed to temp New tests created for: power fans raid ? For example, consider the compaq-server and dell-poweredge templates. Once I have access to the Netapp's here, I will try and take a look at this, or someone who is already monitoring Netapp's is free to supply the relevant changes. > Still, why does a missing OID for the "status" test cause all the other > tests to turn grey? It's a bit of a bug, any failed queries, no matter the reason/result code, result in devmon assuming the device is down, and no more OIDs are queried. Disabling the tests that use those OIDs is at present a workaround, until I fix the root cause. > I may be missing something here, but I would have expected this to affect > just one test. No? Hi Loris, I'm not sure if it's the problem as I'm still new to this, but could I ask why you "snmpget -v 1" when the response comes back as SNMP v2? I don't know if it makes a difference though. Hi Buchan, Thanks for your reply. The temperature info is part of the "status" test, which includes uptime, CPU utilization, fan status, enclosure/tray(s) status and other bits I really care about. I'll try to "adjust" the template and remove the temperature bit. Still, why does a missing OID for the "status" test cause all the other tests to turn grey? I may be missing something here, but I would have expected this to affect just one test. No? Regards, Loris Buchan Milne <bg...@st...> 01/09/2009 09:46 To dev...@li... cc lor...@pn... Any suggestion about how I could fix this? Thanks Loris Loris Serena/PFPC/DUB/PNC 27/08/2009 17:46 To dev...@li... cc Subject Issue monitoring two NetApp Filers Hi guys, I have installed the latest devmon as per the docs/INSTALLATION file on a CentOS 5.3 box also happily running xymon 4.2.3 . I've configured devmon.cfg, added the DEVMON tag to two filers (which I can ping and snmpquery ok) in bb-hosts, and ran devmon --readbbhosts which discovers them just fine. Firing up devmon, not much interesting happens, i.e. the columns do get created in xymon but they appear grey, with a bunch of "Missing repeater data for primary OID" messages. Nor ease nor sloth her strength despoil: Her peaceful farmers till, With patient thrift, th' outlying soil, Her trained mechanics deftly toil, Her merchants ply their skill; Her ponderous engineries supply A thousand waiting needs; Her wheels revolve, her shuttles fly,-- And ever where the prize hangs high, Her foot, unfaltering, leads. Her sympathies are large and sweet: And when, at Freedom's call, The war flags waved, the war drums beat, She sprang, responsive, to her feet, And freely offered all! Running devmon in debug mode returns the following nasties: Any idea what I may have missed or done wrong? <snip> [09-08-27@17:26:52] DEBUG TEMPLATES: running post_template_load() [09-08-27@17:26:52] Hi guys, I have installed the latest devmon as per the docs/INSTALLATION file on a CentOS 5.3 box also happily running xymon 4.2.3 . Running devmon in debug mode returns the following nasties: Any idea what I may have missed or done wrong? <snip> [09-08-27@17:26:52] DEBUG TEMPLATES: running post_template_load() [09-08-27@17:26:52] I've just installed devmon with some help from the list. Take a look at the thread below - It may help you get some answers. Are you installing on a single or multi-node? I should be able to help you get the single node up and running. Your network administration policy (whether to shut unused ports or not) should determine whether you should do this on a per-device basis, per-blade basis or per-port basis (or a combination). E.g., I would typically not have exceptions on a router, on a data center switch I might put non-critical devices on a specific blade, and not necessarily shut unused ports. > 3) (may sound like a weird question...) > When trying to create a template for the CISCO 850 or 870, When you complete this template, please log a ticket on the sourceforge "patch" tracker, with category "Template", so I can review and include the template in future. > I created the > directory, then a specs file and ran ~devmon/devmon --readbbhosts. Hi, I've uploaded tested templates with the cisco 857 and 871 devices. I have a minor issue with if_load/Di0 interface on the 857 and a consequential problem with the exceptions in that folder. I am sure it is more related to my lack of experience with this rather than devmon, so I'll update it once I've worked it out. In the meantime, the other tests seem to work fine. the templates have been taken from the cisco-asa template, so no credit at all on my part. Thanks for the help at the start, overall devmon is working just as expected. Hello, I have installed Xymon and is up and running fine. Now I am trying to install Devmon to merge with Hobbit, but I am not able to install it. I referred the docs (INSTALLATION) but stuck on the 5th point (Scripts). I am using Linux 5.0. If you can provide me full and easy steps to configure and monitor the Devmon then it would be great help from your side. Looking forward for your immediate update. out to the end. Clarendon, the Royalist historian of the Great Rebellion, makes a slighting reference to the two towns. "In Dorsetshire", he says, "the enemy had only two little fisher towns, Poole and Lyme." The "little fisher towns", however, proved a thorn in the sides of the Royalists, some thousands of whom lost their lives in the fierce fighting that took place at Poole, and particularly around Lyme Regis. The merchants of Poole became wealthy by their trade with Newfoundland, a commerce that commenced in the reign of Queen Elizabeth, and lasted until well on in the reign of Queen Victoria. The trade is said to have been conducted on the truck system, and the merchants grew rich by buying both their exports and imports wholesale while disposing of them at retail prices. Not far from the quay is an almshouse, built in 1816 by George Garland, a wealthy merchant of the town, who, on the occasion of a great feast in 1814, presented "one honest plum-pudding of one hundredweight" towards the entertainment. Farther on is a house built in 1746 by Sir Peter Thompson. It is a good specimen of Georgian architecture, and still bears the heraldic arms of the merchant who built it. Sir Peter's house is now Lady Wimborne's "Cornelia Hospital". Most of the other old houses of the town's merchants have been modernized and sadly disfigured. The oldest almshouses--and the number of ancient almshouses in a town is a sure guide to its old-time prosperity--were built originally in the reign of the fifth Henry, and for many years belonged to the Guild of St. George. In 1547, at the Reformation, they passed to the Crown, with all the other property of the Guild, and in 1550 they were purchased by the Corporation. Needless perhaps to say, they have been rebu |

Hi there, Firstly, is there an 'archive' available of previous postings for Devmon? I've read through the documentation and done some searching online, but although it pretty much working as expected, I have some niggling initial questions I haven't been able to solve.. I'm busy implementing and testing Devmon version 0.3.1-beta1, with the templates from 20080206. XYMON version 4.3.0.0-beta2. My test hardware is a CISCO 2950 switch, CISCO 850 and CISCO 871 firewalls. 1) The CISCO 2950 default template works fine, except that the if_load graphs do not display in xymon. The memory and CPU are fine. if_load.<int>.rrd files are created under my ~xymon/data/rrd directory. I've attached a screenshot of what I see. 2) I've used the exceptions file for the cisco-2950 template to ignore interfaces that have no systems connected (rather than report red "down"). Is this the best way to do this or is their a dymanic way of ignoring these interfaces? 3) (may sound like a weird question...) When trying to create a template for the CISCO 850 or 870, I created the directory, then a specs file and ran ~devmon/devmon --readbbhosts. I kept receiving the error: "No matching templates for device: <hostname>" But then, after copying the directories and files from cisco-asa and updating the specs file accordingly (same as the test specs I was using previously), it worked. Does there need to be any minimum number of tests before the templates will match? I'm sure I didn't have a typo in my original specs file. Thanks, Mario |

Apologies, I have one other question... How can I tell which template is been used on a device?
