Greetings; Are the templates at http://sourceforge.net/projects/devmon/files/ the latest/greatest templates known to man? I have a Cisco-7206 and I could have sworn it reports temperature, but there is no dir with files for that. Also, I am looking for where I can down the appropriate dir/files for an IBM Blade (E-Class). (Please help!!!) Many thanks, .vadim Send |

All; I am extremely new to Devmon, found out about it from the Xymon list. I've got it running sucessfully for my Cisco routers, and it's a great tool! What I need to do now is to configure Devmon for a few other devices, initially my: 1, IBM E-Class Bladeserver (8677) chassis & management module. 2. My Citrix server (preferably for monitoring published apps, users, which users are using which apps, how long, etc. Is there a location for these sub-dirs that I can place into my templates directory? Many thanks in advance, .vadim |

But a Family left, by our labour and contrivance, in a situation in which, as our Blessed Lord himself declares, it is all but impossible that they should be saved,[5] presents an object of contemplation widely different. Faith can only lay hold of the fearful declaration;--"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdo |

Using this database about 10 configuration files are generated, amongst them (parts of the) configuration files for Xymon (devmon) and MRTG. A closed loop (database -> devmon -> database) does not seem to be a good idea. But, my 6509's and 6513's with Fa interfaces (some of which are connected to critical servers) and a 6513 with a PO (STM) interface - one of our two links to our upstream provider - would not benefit from something like this, so you'll have to maintain this locally, where you could have excluded all interfaces classes with a regex in your except option in bb-hosts. So, it may work for you, but I would prefer to not recommend local changes to templates where they can easily be avoided, and that people push required changes to templates (and new ones) upstream. Please see the > coverage > of the except option in the "USING" file for more detail. I recently solved a similar problem, with the additional restraint that the "interesting interfaces" should be specified in the templates only, while the interfaces which are shutdown are listed only in the bb-hosts file. My final setup is as follows: - in the templates, file exceptions, the exception "only" is used to select the interfaces of interest. The exception "ignore" is thus not used. - in bb-hosts, for "all" tests, the "ignore" exception is used and the "only" exception is not used. Thus the devmon configuration in bb-hosts does not contain dependencies on tests, which is encoded only in the templates. The devmon configuration in bb-hosts does contain for each networking device the list of disabled interfaces. In my case, those lists are generated from a configuration database. For example: in /opt/devmon/templates/cisco-6509/exceptions: ifName : only : Gi.+|Po.+ in /home/xymon/server/etc/bb-hosts: DEVMON:model(cisco;6509),except(all;ifName;i:Gi5/1|Gi5/2) The nett result is that the interesting interfaces which are not disabled are shown by devmon. Prompted by Wim's post on the Hobbit list, I made a quick script to use for a custom title for the if_load graphs. It is (at present) using a perl module (Xymon::Client) which I've started, and for which I am looking at use cases. For this use case, it could easily enough be replaced with a call to 'bb' if you don't want this additional dependency. To use this: 1)Edit hobbitserver.cfg, add a PERL5LIB pointing to a directory under which you will install the attached Client.pm file. I used: PERL5LIB=$BBHOME/perl 2)In the directory, create a directory named "Xymon", and place Client.pm in the directory (e.g. $BBHOME/perl/Xymon) 3)Save the attached devmongraphtitle.pl somewhere (I used $BBHOME/ext) 4)Test that as the user your xymon runs as, under a xymon environment (e.g. after 'bbcmd bash') you can execute the script successfully. With no arguments, the output should be "Network Traffic" 5)Modify your devmon-graph.cfg (or whichever file has the graph definitions for if_load), so that you have something like: TITLE exec:$BBHOME/ext/devmongraphtitle.pl instead of the original: TITLE Network Traffic If it all works, you should now have the interface description in all your if_load graphs (for interfaces that have descriptions). Let me know what you think (of either ...). Once I find a home for Xymon::Client, I will probably add devmongraphtitle.pl to the extras directory in svn. Regards, Buchan |

Hello, monitoring a Cisco switch with devmon 0.3.1-beta1, the test if_dsc sometimes gives an alert on a (temporarily) unused interface. The switch seems to drop packets (broadcasts?) if the attached host is shut down, which is no problem. I would like to prevent a packet-drop-threshold-exceeded alert from being generated in such a case. I've tried to suppress alerts by setting the measured discard rate to zero if the packet rate on that interface is small. With ifInPps being the input packet rate, if OutPps the output packet rate, the following transformation is used: ifInDpsR : DELTA : {ifInDiscards} ifInDps : SWITCH : {ifInPps} <1 = 0, >0 = {ifInDpsR} ifOutDpsR : DELTA : {ifOutDiscards} ifOutDps : SWITCH : {ifOutPps} <1 = 0, >0 = {ifOutDpsR} ifInDscPct : MATH : ({ifInDps} / {ifInPps} ) x 100 ifOutDscPct : MATH : ({ifOutDps} / {ifOutPps}) x 100 It results in a fatal error in devmon: Got unexpected error while performing math transform on oid ifOutDscPct for nlrdlx05: Can't use string ("1") as a HASH ref while "strict refs" in use at /opt/devmon-0.3.1-beta1/modules/dm_tests.pm line 2521, <$__ANONIO__> line 28512. How should one change the value of an OID alias? Kind regards, Wim Nelis. ******************************************************************************************************* The NLR disclaimer (http://www.nlr.nl/emaildisclaimer) is valid for NLR e-mail messages. ******************************************************************************************************* |

Hello List, I'm running Devmon version 0.3.1-beta1 . Is it possible to get the Dormant status interpreted as Green for one single interface on a Cisco Router? If so, what is the syntax to use in bb-hosts? Thanks in advance Loris Serena |

Hi Guys, I am not sure if this is a devmon or hobbit question so I am mailing both parties. I am currently monitoring a Cisco 3500XL which is showing alot of "erros in" under the if_err section. When I clear the counters of the switch, everything returns to zero except "errors in" which still remains at the same level it was before clearing the counters. Does anybody know how to clear these values? Brian |

Also, make sure you are running the SNMP modules on the router. Finally, I have found it depends on the version of the O/S on the device. Some of the older versions will not produce the SNMP data for all the tests in devmon. .....Bruce Bruce White Senior Enterprise Systems Engineer | Phone: 630-671-5169 | Fax: 630-893-1648 | be...@fe... | http://www.fellowes.com/ Disclaimer: The information contained in this message may be privileged and confidential and protected from disclosure. Howdy good people of this mailing list I'm trying to wrap my head around the REGSUB devmon uses but I'm not getting very far. The objective is to replace the : sign in a Mac address to # smMACAddressTxt : REGSUB : {smMACAddress} /:/#/ This line substitutes the first : sign with # but then stops... I know this is perl regex as devmon exlains but the g for global doesn't work. Anyone know what I need to do a global replace ? ___________________________________________ Guðmundur Örn Ingvarsson Landsbankinn Unix Infrastructure Administrator Core Systems IT - CS IT Sími / Tel.: (+354) 410 6730 Farsími / Mobile: (+354) 820 5074 Fax: (+354) 410 3032 gud...@la...<mailto:gud...@la...> www.landsbanki.is<http://www.landsbanki.is/> Landsbankinn (NBI hf.), kt. 471008-0280, Austurstræti 11, 155 Reykjavík, er skráð hlutafélag og starfar samkvæmt heimild og undir eftirliti Fjármálaeftirlitsins. Seems clear that you either have the wrong SNMP community or have an access list on your routers that restricts either SNMP access or maybe a firewall is blocking the access. These should be your first areas to check. ___________________________________________ Guðmundur Örn Ingvarsson Landsbankinn Unix Infrastructure Administrator Core Systems IT - CS IT Sími / Tel.: (+354) 410 6730 Farsími / Mobile: (+354) 820 5074 Fax: (+354) 410 3032 gud...@la... www.landsbanki.is -----Original Message----- From: Ambati Srinivas [mailto:am....@gm...] Sent: 8. desember 2009 12:55 To: dev...@li...
