Hi Stef What changes/additions did you make server-side to get graphing working for the port_load info? I am struggling to get it to work. OK, just got notified my email is pending moderator approval - it's too big with my attachment. :-( If you mail me, I will send tarball direct. Stef? Can you make the file available on that Wiki of yours? Or perhaps allow me to upload it there? I think we should also talk to Buchan and other interested parties, and consolidate our template efforts. Although this site http://devmon.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/devmon/trunk/templates/ is great, it was damn difficult to find, and I suspect there are a lot more templates than just those. I would like to suggest we create a Devmon templates area on the Xymon home page here, http://xymonton.trantor.org/doku.php Even if it duplicates some efforts, like the page above, it will be more visible to Xymon users, and probably encourage wider Devmon adoption, and more templates. It might also prevent duplication of effort. Stef, myself, and David Baldwin, (who create the template on the link above) all worked pretty hard to create what we did, but it didn't need to be done three times. Had a quick gander, and it looks very similar to what I have in some areas. I had done a little more in other areas, like links to other switches. I then found another Brocade template, which I then adapted and modified to suit our needs. Got it working yesterday arvo, but it needs a little bit of cleaning up. Will do so on Monday when I am back in the office, and post to the list. Hi All Hope this email is not too long and boring, just want to share some stuff and ask some too... Current Infrastructure: - 3x locations in different countries est. 200 servers each and network equipment to match - Currently running 1 x hobbit/xymon per site (with hobbit clients) Main goal for Xymon/Devmon implementation - Single central monitoring station (Lightweight) - Need to report on historical infrastructure data (availability, resource utilization etc.) - Snmp functionality to enable monitoring of network equip, storage and servers - Low as possible network load Work done: - Base install of Centos 5.5, 64bit on Dell Poweredge 1955, 8x2ghz, 8gb ram - xymon 4.2.3 installation - Devmon 0.3.1-beta1 (MULTINODE) CYCLETIME=60 NUMFORKS=14 (tried up to 20) MAXPOLLTIME=4 SNMPTIMEOUT=50 (because currently polling across borders) SNMPTRIES=4 Rest Default - Transferred existing bb-hosts file (+/- 200 devices) - Customized tests - Linux 1955 - Poweredge template removed fans and power - Added Disk, DiskIO, IFLoad and Processes from linux-netsnmp template - Win 1955 - Poweredge template removed fans, power and cpu - Added Disk, IFLoad, cpus and Services from Server2003 template - Win/Lin 1950/2950 - Same as above except left fans and power in there Problems experienced: - Default UDP buffer too small causing, packet receive errors when "netstat -su" (SOLVED) - Set in /etc/sysctl.conf net.core.rmem_max = 16777216 net.core.rmem_default = 8388608 net.core.wmem_max = 16777216 net.core.wmem_default = 8388608 - Regularly getting devices that stop monitoring with the following error (white hobbit): - This problem is intermittent, across various servers on LAN and WAN Missing repeater data for primary OID XXXXXXX - Recently started getting the following problem (purple hobbit): - Also intermittent, started happening since adding some new hosts to monitor - Possible cause, think i have reached my limit for this server, please confirm, data from devmon not reaching hobbit in time - Database reports 750 tests on this main node Problems with templates: Hashed these lines out [10-07-16@22:16:20] Bad SWITCH case type (1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.1.4) at /usr/local/devmon/templates/microsoft-win2k3server/disk/transforms, line 6 [10-07-16@22:16:20] Bad SWITCH case type (1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.1.2) at /usr/local/devmon/templates/microsoft-win2k3server/disk/transforms, line 6 [10-07-16@22:16:20] Bad SWITCH case type (1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.1.3) at /usr/local/devmon/templates/microsoft-win2k3server/disk/transforms, line 6 [10-07-16@22:16:20] Bad SWITCH case type (1.3.6.1.2.1.25.2.1.7) at /usr/local/devmon/templates/microsoft-win2k3server/disk/transforms, line 6 Don't need this templates, just thought i'd share [10-07-16@22:16:20] Missing 'oids' file in /usr/local/devmon/templates/cisco-mds9500/experimental, skipping this test. [10-07-16@22:16:20] Missing 'message' file in /usr/local/devmon/templates/netscreen-5gt/memory, skipping this test. Dell-poweredge template on Windows server cpu don't report, please let me know the correct oid. Dell-poweredge template on Windows server memory don't report correctly, problems vary on 2003/2008/2008r2 (Probably OID's too) Requests: - Need to know if anybody can help me out with SNMP templates for the following: - Dell Chassis Switches PowerConnect 5316M - Dell 1955 chassis DRAC - EMC Clariion CX3 series storage - CISCO ACE - Fortigate (Fortinet) Firewall - Anything MS SQL server - Got the Brocade on thanks!!!! - Any poweredge templates specific to Windows Versions and Linux The ones above i do not find i will attempt to create and share as soon as this is done. Questions: - Want to manually assign owner-node of a device to be polled in db or otherwise, and it not be overwritten by auto assignment by devmon - Reason, each node must only poll on local LAN and send update to display server (Multi location) - What is the relative maximum tests per node as per experience (got 750 on display server) - What is the relative maximum devices to be monitored on hobbit keeping RRD in mind - If i disable conn test on hobbit, will this affect polling of devices if so how can i disable. - If devmon fails to connect to display server to send polling results, is the results buffered and resent when display server becomes avail or does it get lost More hobbit related: - Want to pull custom reports relating to test data results, was thinking to import all rrd and hobbit history data into MS SQL db via rrdtool xport function, any ideas would help. And lastly i love what you guys are doing with devmon keep the good work up!! In the grand tradition of problems everywhere, all it took was another set of eyes. Notice the swSerial oid below? It's .3.6....... It should have been .1.3.6....... Added .1 and all is good in the land. Now for my follow up question. How does one bad oid, on one test break all of the others? Why does an invalid oid there, cause a Missing repeater data error on all of the other tests? Hi all Devmon was working happily, retreiving data, when it just stopped. All of my new template tests went white, with this error message - Missing repeater data for primary OID (In fairness, I only have one device, and all the tests are new ones I am busy working on) snmpget and snmpwalk from command line are still working fine. The devmon --readbbhosts command finds my device. And my one test, with this oid file, finds the system description. sysDescr : .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0 : leaf sysObjectID : .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2.0 : leaf sysUpTime : .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0 : leaf sysContact : .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.4.0 : leaf sysName : .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.5.0 : leaf sysLocation : .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.6.0 : leaf ipAddress : .1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.1.25.0 : leaf netMask : .1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.1.26.0 : leaf swSerial : .3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.1.10.0 : leaf The rest return "Unknown" The logs simply show lots of "No SNMP data found for blah on device" So I tried debug mode. Hello all, For a modified version of Devmon, I would like to create a test-environment. In this environment Devmon should typically run only once, and should not write anything to Xymon. Can someone comment on the correctness and the completeness of the following setup: . Create a separate directory, f.i. /opt/devmon/test and put files devmon and devmon.cfg in it . Create subdirectories modules en templates, and populate it with the appropriate files . Edit devmon.cfg to point to the running version of Xymon . Build hosts.db: `devmon --readbbhosts` . Do a test-run: `devmon -l` Regards, Wim Nelis. ******************************************************************************************************* The NLR disclaimer (http://www.nlr.nl/emaildisclaimer) is valid for NLR e-mail messages. ******************************************************************************************************* |

Buchan, I think this can be a bug! Curiously this problem only occurs on 64-bit machines running xymon 4.3.0 and devmon. After I upgrade my second server environment to 64 bit the same problem appears, hobbitd_rrd crash and the cores shows the same if_load test problem. This second server monitors different appliances and before with 4.3.0 and devmon beta1 versions, I had no problem with hobbitd_rrd crashes. The 4.2.3 version runs good. Addition: I get the error for all three custom OID:s on the hosts that don't work, not just the OID in my example. /Johan -----Original Message----- From: Johan Sjöberg [mailto:joh...@de...] Sent: den 10 juni 2010 11:06 To: dev...@li... Hi. I am creating a test for VMFS utilization in our ESX template. It consists on a client-side script that is executed by snmpd reporting volume label size and free space on three different OID:s. It works fine if I use snmpwalk from the command-line on the devmon server, and it also works fine for 4 out of our 11 ESX hosts. One the other 7 I get the following error: Received SNMP response with error code error status: noSuchName index 1 (OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.6876.99999.2.3.101) SNMPv2c_Session (remote host: "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx].161) community: "public" request ID: 339225935 PDU bufsize: 8000 bytes timeout: 10s retries: 10 backoff: 1) at /usr/local/devmon/modules/dm_snmp.pm line 546 Does anyone have any idea why devmon gets this error for some of the hosts?
