Thanks for getting back to me! This is all way too much effort for me to deploy, but I would like to complete Devmon + Xymon on the VM guest to share with everyone. >I'm guessing you still have TEST2RRD with "power=devmon" instead of "power=ncv" and weren't aware that it doesn't take effect immediately (I think one needs to at least kill|signal the channel=status process). I think it would not be a trivial change, as we would have to tag each OID (when they are pooled from all the tests for a template), and then establish separate SNMP "sessions" in different versions, and wait for both sessions to complete before sending the data back to the main process. As I also wanted to move away from device-specific templates to MIB-based templates in future, this puts a spanner in that to some extent. Could you log a tracker item (with a logged-in user account) at: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=816980&group_id=160720&func=browse (link from http://sourceforge.net/projects/devmon/develop) Regards, Buchan |

Is there a way to specify the snmp version per oid in a template? We have some Foundry switches that will pull the ifalias oid fine in version 1 but fail in version 2c. But I need version 2c for the interface counters as they are gig ports. This seems to be a foundry issue as I have had the same problem using mrtg as well. We can consider possible solutions for this. Possibly a flag on an OID in the message file to indicate that it is optional? Regards, Buchan |

Yes, that works fine if you want to exclude a test completely. But sometimes it is just that some OIDs are missing. Like for Dell servers where newer servers have some stuff that can be monitored on the RAID controller that is not present on the older models. In that case I don't want to have different column names for the different raid tests /Johan > -----Original Message----- > From: Richard Finegold [mailto:gol...@gm...] > Sent: den 23 juni 2011 05:35 > To: dev...@li... > Subject: Re: [Devmon] optional oid > > An alternative to separate templates is separate columns. Other environmental sensors (I need to check if these are in svn ...) have separate tests for everything (air, audio, dew, door, dry, enclosure, error, humidity, motion, other, temp). Of course, then there are others which have crap MIBs, and bundle everything into one table and populate only some of the "rows" depending on what sensors are connected. Regards, Buchan |

An alternative to separate templates is separate columns. You could dedicate a column to CPs (e.g "cp" or "ha"), then use something like DEVMON:tests(diag,if_load,if_stat) to avoid including your additional test. I use this technique for two of my hosts (Dell PowerEdge) that don't have RAIDs (they use "tests(fans, power, temp)"). IMO, it usually is better for alerts/history/graphs to have more granularity, particularly if they can fail independently or not uniformly supported. I personally feel it was bad judgement for the APC templates to combine temperature and humidity (which have different units) into one "env" column, when other devices (e.g. Cisco 6509, Dell PowerEdge, Compaq server) have a distinct "temp" column. But maybe I'd feel differently if I had at least one humidity sensor somewhere, or had a non-APC device with an env column. I have only been able to solve this by creating separate templates for the different devices. Hi, I want to monitor some Brocade fiber channel switches. Some of them have high avaible CP's. So only some of them have the corresponding oids. If I add the oid to the message file, the switches who don't have this oid are reporting this ('Missing repeater data for CPLastEvent for status msg') and no update is send to xymon. So is it possible to mark an oid as optional in the message file? Stef |

http://pastebin.com/WY7k37WM is what I've been using for graphing, in case you get an RRD generated via NCV again. I'm guessing you still have TEST2RRD with "power=devmon" instead of "power=ncv" and weren't aware that it doesn't take effect immediately (I think one needs to at least kill|signal the channel=status process). Add to oids: upsVoltageActual: .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.2.2.8.0 : leaf upsReplaceDate : .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.2.1.3.0 : leaf upsCurrentOut : .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.4.2.4.0 : leaf and add at least the first one somewhere in the message. Alternatively, remove it from the graph definition if you're not using it. Your proposed graph definition seems to have some sort of volt byte units. If you're converting from volt bits to volt bytes, you should divide by 8 rather than multiplying. :) It is trying to use a nonexistent "in" value, which doesn't exist as a DS in your RRD, so the units are moot. In my experience, there's no need to patch the message file as Buchan suggested (because, simply stated, the NCV parser starts when it sees a digit or "-" and stops when it sees a non-digit non-period), but I'm not seeing the "C" he mentioned. OTOH, I'm still on 4.2.3. Here's what I use for the NCV parser: NCV_power="BatteryTemperature:GAUGE,RuntimeRemaining:GAUGE,BatteryCapacity:GAUGE,UPSLoad:GAUGE,Voltageactual:GAUGE,Voltagein:GAUGE,Voltageout:GAUGE,Currentout:GAUGE,Timeonbattery:GAUGE,Lastreplacedon:GAUGE" Now that I look at it again, that Lastreplacedon value really oughtn't be there; as implied above, for a date of "05/01/07", it's parsed as (and results in) "5". A drawback of the NCV parser (and a raison d'etre of SPLIT_NCV) is that an RRD can't easily have an DS pruned, last I checked, so I can't remove it without starting over. My TEST2RRD includes "power=ncv" and GRAPHS includes ",power:power|power1|power2," but, again, that's on 4.2.3. |

If this ending and SI prefixes (instead of binary prefixes) are acceptable, all is well, no modifications required. If you want to remove this ending, you should be able to do it with a negative SUBSTR transform; I submitted http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2963118&group_id=160720&atid=816979 but I'm not sure if it was accepted (due to lack of persuasive use case). A very low impact patch. If you insist on binary prefixes, duplicating the speeds array/trans_speed function in dm_tests.pm is fairly straightforward, but that's a much bigger patch. |
