I am setting up a RAID-1 array on a Promise Ultra100-TX2 PCI IDE controller. I followed the dl docs guide, which made it very easy (only gotcha is I had to use the devfs names in mdadm.conf). While it all seens to work, it is doing the initial syncing at only 3.3MB/sec, which seem much to slow for a modern Ultra-DMA5 drives. hdparm reports that the current mode is UDMA5, dma is on, write-cache is on. The hdparm -t reports read speeds for both drives of 51~55MB/s. Searching the web I found some references to needing kernel support for these controllers, and doesn't seems to be a known device to the dl kernel in 1.0.2b. Also the boot log idicates the BIOS has these drives set to pio mode. Yet the hdparm -t would lead me to believe that UDMA is in fact working. There are on errors in the syslog. Any ideas? Tim |
