While looking thru the LinuxISO site I clicked on Immunix. They have two features for their distro which prevent attacks. The one that got my attention deals w/ buffer overflows by using canaries, yeah the birds ;), in GCC. Well, they are about to stop giving linux away, selling it only, but their mods to the compiler are GPL. There is a really mild perfomance hit, nothing to speak of. http://www.immunix.org/stackguard.html The other thing is format guarding, something to do w/ printf and sprintf, I never heard of it, but i would hate to hear about it by being cracked into !!
