From our 'non-serial box': # cat /proc/cmdline initrd=initrd.gz vga=773 BOOT_IMAGE=vmlinuz But does /proc/cmdline show if serial console is enabled rather than whether it is actually attached? Can you try this on a box booted without serial console attached (but with serial console enabled in inittab)?
